V5 Install issues Windows 8-64bit

Install from CD 5.0.0.8 hangs having entered product key - application does not respond. Have tried compatibility mode for Setup application without success.

Install of current 30 day trial version hung registering key components with lots of disk activity. After over half an hour it finally finished. But it will not take my boxed license key (which came without username).

This is a new replacement PC with formal release of Windows 8 cleanly installed from CD. Any suggestions?

Try right-clicking on the setup exe (or install or whatever it is called) and Run as Admin - see if that makes a difference. If not then I suggest you contact support@family-historian.co.uk

I had no problem at all installing version 5.0.0 on Windows 8 on two computers os this is either an issue introduced with 5.0.8 or something different about your computer. Do you have a printer installed?

Do you have an antivirus installed? have you tried installing FH with it turned off, have you tried installing in safe mode?

The only AV installed (so far) is Windows Defender. I turned that off - same thing.

If I don't type in a key, it responds that I need one. Putting anything into that field the process hangs.

Are you using right-click Run as Administrator on the setup.exe installation file?

On the advice of Support, I ran the install in 'safe mode' and it completed OK in about 20 mins. I seemed to encounter a similar issue with the patch to 5.0.7 and ran that in 'safe mode' as well - successfully.

Thanks for the input - now installed and seems OK.

Nick.

20 minutes seems a very long time to install.
What type of PC is it?

To answer, open the Control Panel, (if necessary open System and Security), then open System, and report what is displayed under System:
Manufacturer:
Model:
Rating:
Processor:
Installed memory (RAM):
System type:

If you don't know how to open Control Panel use:
(1) Windows key + X key to open Power User Menu and choose Control Panel.
(2) Windows key + I key to open Charms Settings Menu and choose Control Panel.
(There are several others but that will do.)

Another way might be to hold down the 'Windows' key and press the Break key - that's worked on every PC I've ever used.
