Imported gedcom now relationships missing

Hi I have uploaded my gedcom file to try out the version 5 trial, but a lot of relationships are missing. For example to add a spouse I have to select existing person, then link them again. Then I have to link their children up. A lot of them are fine and there doesnt seem to be a pattern, it happens for single and multiple marriages. No one is missing but they arent where they should be!

I had saved the gedcom from version 3. I no longer have the software so the file is from a backup on a new laptop.

Hope that makes sense!

Could you give a bit more history of how and when and where the GEDCOM was last used on FH V3.
i.e. what version of Windows, why you no longer have the software, etc.

If it was a while ago, are you sure the relationships you expect were actually entered into the FH data?

What form of 'backup' file, and what form of 'upload' have you used?
Are you sure it is the latest version of the GEDCOM file?

If you open the Records Window does the Individuals tab list every person expected, and does the Families tab list all the family couples expected?
You may need to use Tools > Preferences > Records Window tab and set Record Type Display Options all to Always show to see all the tabs.

Have you run the File > Validate command?
Have run Tools > Find Uncategorised Data?

Hi

I had the original version of family historian, then upgraded through the site to version 3 so didnt have the actual disc.  The version 1 disc got damaged then my laptop broke last month but I had been saving the gedcom file once a month and was sending to myself as an email. So I dont now have an actual FH program thats why I am using the trial for now.

On the families tab there are about a dozen families that list 0 children when I know there should be some.  The individual tab lists everyone expected, but when I expand each person there is just their details and no mention of their spouses or parents. The Windows format has not changed sinced i saved the file last July.

Is a dozen married couples about what you would expect?

Open the Focus Window either by clicking the magnifying glass icon on the left, or selecting an Individual record and clicking the magnifying glass Focus icon in the toolbar.
This should display the Individual and their immediate relations.
Click any person and their Property Box is shown on the right.

I hope the problems with your old PC will encourage you to schedule regular backups of your most important data.
One of the most important is downloaded software that you have paid for such as FH.
Also data such as FH that has taken a great of effort to compile, and may include data that has been paid for through genealogy web-site subscriptions.
These days there are many free and simple to use methods to backup your data.
