Installing FH on Notebook

Post by margett1 » 19 Jan 2013 20:12

I have just been given a Notebook as a special birthday present from my family. My problem is how do I install FH on it? It has no CD player. I am currently using the latest version of FH on my computer and hope to use the Notebook for visiting record offices etc.

I presume you have a CD/Box license rather than a download one, if this is the case copy the contents of the V5 CD (upgrade or full) to a USB stick and install from that.

Thank you Jane, but I'm obviously being a bit thick! I have the CD in the CD drive, the USB stick is ready but how do I actually copy on to it? I'm sure it is very obvious but I'm afraid I am not very computer literate.

Open Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer).
One way is to hold down the Windows key and click the E key.
(The Windows key has the 'Windows pane' logo on it.)

Select the CD/DVD drive letter, then right-click and choose Copy.

Now select the USB drive letter, then right-click and select Paste.

After transferring the USB stick to the Notebook, open its drive letter and locate an Application file probably called setup.exe.
Double-click to run that file and perform the installation.

Now see how to Move Family Historian Settings & Projects from PC to Notebook.

If you have FH V5 the easiest method is with the Version 5 Plugin.
