Updating from Version 4 to Version 5.

Post by barbara348 » 18 Jan 2013 14:11

Hi,

I'm using Family Historian Version 4.1.3 on my Windows 7 PC and I'm thinking of buying the new Family Historian Version 5 CD.
Do I need to completely uninstall version 4 before I can install Version 5?
I'm not too clever at all this sort of thing so I'd appreciate any advice please.

Thanks

Barbara.

Hi Barbara,
Yes, you can simply install V5 over the existing V4.
Also, should you need to in future, you can install the Upgrade V4 to V5 without having to install any of the previous versions, providing you have both the V4 & V5 Registration Keys.

Please see How to (Re-)install Family Historian for full details and advice.

Remember, when buying your CD you only need the cheaper Upgrade V4 to V5 Licence, and NOT a Full V5 Licence.

Did you know you can buy a download version direct from Calico Pie for only £22.99.

No, that is the main point of installing V5 over V4.
All your data, photos, settings, preferences will all remain intact.

Hi Mike, apologies for my late reply, my main PC is up the creek again !!

Thanks very much for the info about photos/settings etc remaining the same when loading V5 over V4that's a relief.

Cheers

On a similar note I'm shifting FH to a new laptop. I have been running v4 bought with a complimentary upgrade to v5. This upgrade offer was only live for 30 days, however, so now I can re-install the v4 from the original download file but not the upgrade. Any way to get back to the full v5 I had before? Thanks.

Calico recommend that you keep a copy of the upgrade program, but if you did not do that if you send support@family-historian.co.uk an email they can resend you a new link. If your email address has changed then make sure you send your original address as well so they can find your license.

That's great. Many thanks. I had kept a copy, but for some reason it wouldn't run. All the best. Robin

Updating from Version 4 to Version 5.

Post by barbara348 » 12 Mar 2013 21:12

For Tatewise.

Hi Mike, I am about to update from Version 4 to Version 5 and in a previous post (18.Jan 13), you gave me the following advice:

'Remember, when buying your CD you only need the cheaper Upgrade V4 to V5 Licence, and NOT a Full V5 Licence'.

Mike, can you tell me what the difference is ,if any,( apart from the price of course),between the full V5 Licence CD and the upgrade V4 to V5 Licence CD ?

Thanks

Barbara.

P.S. Forgot to ask, how much does the V4- V5 upgrade CD cost?

There is absolutely no difference between the FH features on various Version 5 media.
It makes no difference whether it is Download or a CD, or whether it is a V4-V5 Upgrade or Full V5 licence.

The cheapest, easiest, and quickest is a V4-V5 Upgrade Download from here.

CD are not available directly from Calico Pie, so follow the links here.
