Hi,
I have recently purchased Family Historian 5 and am trying to restore a backup zip file made with Family Historian 2.2.
I do not have the original program - lost with a previous computer so I cant just save it as a GED file.
Can anybody help please?
I really dont want to try and enter it again.
Thanks

The Knowledge Base Glossary has some
Backup and Recovery advice.
Presumably you are using the FH
File > Backup/Restore > Restore
option, which should allow you to restore the old GEDCOM file from the ZIP file.
FH backup ZIP files are standard
Compressed (zipped) Folders that if necessary can be unpacked using right-click
Extract All
within Windows Explorer.
Once you have retrieved the GEDCOM file it is advisable to use
File > Project Window > New Project > Import a GEDCOM file in order to create a Project.

I seem to recall that the .zip files in early versions of Historian were not 'real' .zip files in that they had a different structure. This may be the problem. You might have to contact Calico Pie for help.

Version 5 should be able to restore V2 zip files, just use File>Backup/Restore>Restore and select the zip file.
