I am getting in a terrible muddle with saving to drives other than my C: drive on Desktop. I use an external drive to work on my projects but to get to them I have to go to the GEDCOM backup, hi-lite the file then restore, every time. Then I find that a lot of the actions are not available because the file is not in an FH Project???!!!Even though I save and backup as instructed.
Also if I try to open a project from the front page of FH I get a message telling me the 'File Path is not Valid'.
I am obviously doing something wrong and would be grateful if someone could help me. I have bought the book 'Getting the most out of FH 5' but there is very little (practically nothing) saving. All I want is to be able to access my projects on any device I am using, I have tried putting them into DROPBOX but even that doesn't work. HELP Please [confused]

The important thing is to copy the WHOLE project folder, not the gedcom and if you want to use backup use the FULL option.
If you really insist on using an external drive for your master (personally I just backup the folder to the external.
Then you need to ensure it always comes up as the same drive letter and then change the Location field at the bottom of the property box to match the folder when your Project folders are stored on the external drive. As long as you are copying the whole project folder you can also use Browse for project on the Project window's More Tasks button.

When changing the drive/folder of a Project it is advisable to use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Copy Project to copy the entire Project Folder.
Then change the Location at the bottom of the File > Project Window to the new drive/folder.
When all working OK, you can temporarily reset Location to its first value, and use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Delete Project.
Then change the Location back to its new value.
See the Knowledge Base article on Understanding Projects and the referenced Help within FH.
In particular check the section on Project Structure.
