Please - does anyone know how to easily record the fact that a person died unmarried or married but without offspring?

waltonnz,

There are two facts that you can use to indicate these.  They are child count and marriage count.  If you know that the person had no child or no marriage, you can set these too 0.

Thank you. I wasn't aware of those two facts. However, what I was looking for was some way of showing it on the Main tab of the Property box, so I could see it at a glance.

waltonnz,

You can add them to the Main tab of the property box.  Take a look at page 26 in the book Getting the Most from Family Historian 5.  You can access this book from the Help menu in Family Historian.

Basically what you do is to use the Menu button in the property box, click on customize..., uncheck the box in the lower left hand corner that says Show most commonly-used items only, and then add the Child Count and/or Marriage Count fields from the left hand pane to the right hand pane, position them in the list where you want them to appear, and then click on OK.

Thank you, that sounds good. Is there any way I could have a couple of fields labeled say Marriage and Children where I could just type in say - Never married and None

Yes, that is possible. It just requires a bit more customisation.

Use the same menu option as Bill described above, but instead of selecting Marriage Count or Child Count, select (for advanced users) and add that to the right-hand column in the Main area for Individual.
Give the item a Custom Item Name such as Marriage & Child Count.
Tick Part 1 and Part 2.
Enter the Label for each part as Marriage and Children.

For Marriage against Data Reference click <<Select.
Expand Individual + Attributes + Marriage Count select Note and click OK.

For Children against Data Reference click <<Select.
Expand Individual + Attributes + Child Count select Note and click OK.

Click OK twice, and the Main tab should now have the two fields you requested, and you can type anything you like into them.

Brilliant. That is exactly what I want. Your step by step instructions are easy to follow. A big thank you to everyone for their help. What a very adaptable application FH is. Even after using it through several versions, I can still be amazed by what it can do.

The property box has a marriage status box which you can use.

Yes, thank you, I use the marriage box status options quite often, but you have to have a marriage recorded before it comes into play. In my case I wanted to record that the person had never married as opposed to maybe married but spouse unknown.
