I have just started using FH5 and wondered what is the best/preferred way of entering Birth, Marriage, Deaths and Census information:
Should I create a source record for every individual when entering BMD & Census information, i.e 1911 Census for (my grandfather) William Curtis and link/copy this to all family members in the census? create a birth record for each person?
I have had a quick look at the getting started guide and did not see an answer to my query.
Any help and advice would be most welcome.

Welcome to FHUG!
I (and many other users) would most strongly recommend using Ancestral Sources, which is a free download from this site, and an excellent add-on for FH. There is a wealth of information and help about this in the Knowledge Base.

I'm sure others will be along and give you more detail but use Ancestral Sources for census, baptism and marriage (birth and death are coming soon). See here for Ancestral Sources:
http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... cat=GedCom
and there's a forum section for it at the bottom of the Forums home page.
Use what Ancestral Sources does automatically (creating sources citations, records, linking multi media) as a guide for what to do with births and deaths.
You can always try it out on s simple FH test tree to see how it works.

Likewise, I highly recommend using Ancestral Sources for Census, Baptism, and Marriage events.
Use File > Project Window and if necessary More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project to create the Family Historian Sample Project to experiment with.
This project also forms the basis of the AS tutorials, and benefits from easily being reset at any time by repeating the above commands.
That will give you the foundation structure on which to handle Birth, Death, and any other events.
One important feature to take on board is that one Source can not only be cited by several Individuals, but by several Facts for each Individual.
There are many useful articles in the Knowledge Base.

Thank you for your replies, Peter, David & Mike.
I will look at Ancestral Sources and the Knowledge Base as suggested today and use the sample project to see how it works and experiment with it.
Kind Regards
