Marriage Picture & Text Order, Individual Summary

Post by BobWard » 31 May 2013 03:39

I am doing an Individual Summary Report.  When the report gets to the 'Marriage' section, it lists all the marriage linked pictures and children's pictures prior to the text summary for Spouse, Children, & Marriage.

I would like to list the text summary prior to the pictures.  Is there any way to force the program to display the text first, followed by the pictures?

You probably have the picture location options set to 'In Rows above Text, Left-Aligned'. Unfortunately there is no option to put the pictures below the text, but you can put them to the right of the text. (See Report Options, Pictures tab.)

This arranges the pictures below one another in a column down the right of the page, which is OK if you have a lot of text and few pictures, but looks odd if you have a few lines of text and a lot of pictures because it leaves a large empty space in most of the page.

I think the only way to achieve exactly what you want is to save the report as a text file (in which case the pictures will all be displayed above the text, regardless of what location options you have set) and then post-edit the report to move things around.

Marriage Picture & Text Order, Individual Summary

Lorna,
The text I am referring to is not the text associated with the multimedia pictures. It is the standard text block under the 'Marriage' section of the report that lists: 'Spouse', 'Children', & 'Marriage date & location'.

All my spouse, children, and marriage pictures are presented before the Marriage text block is listed. My preference is to list the spouse, children, & marriage text information before pictures are presented. In my train of thought, it would seem more logical to tell the reader what they are going to see before the pictures are presented.

But as you say, I think the program is hard-wired to present the pictures first and then list the Spouse, Children, & Marriage text block. So the only option to reverse this order is to edit an rtf file, which is going to get very time consuming with nearly 900 individuals.

I am open to any other ideas.

Yes, I know that is what you are talking about. As I said, there is an option to locate the pictures to the right of that text, so it is not quite right to say the program is 'hard wired' to put the pictures first. On the Pictures tab of the Report Options you can select the location of pictures for the Individual, Spouse family, Spouse and Children separately. So for example you could have the individual's pictures above the block of text about the individual, and all the other pictures down the right hand side of the other block of text about Spouse/Children/Marriage. But as I said, this looks odd if you have a few lines of text and a lot of pictures because it leaves a large empty space in most of the page.
The one place you can't put the pictures, oddly, is below the block of text. Perhaps this should go on the Wish List!

Yes, what we need is an option that will do 'In Rows Below Text, Left Aligned (or Right Aligned'. Until that happens, I guess I will just compile an rtf file and start editing 900 people.

Thanks for your suggestions Lorna.
