I have downloaded a trial of version 5 and have started to look around the programme. One thing I have always been fussy about (or just old fashioned) is entering dates in full eg 11th June 2013.
However even though the online book (page 22: How to enter simple dates, paragraph 3) states that dates can be entered in a variety of styles I just couldn't manage to customize Birth/Death dates. It automatically shortened the dates. If I enter the full date as a 'Date Phrase' the date years do not show on the 'Ancestor Chart' which I require.
How do I enter the type of date style I require?
Any ideas/answers would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

How do I enter a variation of date style?
Hi Andrea,
When it says that dates can be entered in a variety of styles, what it means is that the progam will interpret a variety of ways of entering a date as being the same date. For example:
11th june 2013, 11 jun 2013, 11June 2013, Jun 11 2013, 11/06/2013 (if you use UK settings), 06.12.2013 (if you use US settings)... would all be interpreted, and stored, as 11 June 2013.
But dates can also be displayed in a variety of styles in the text schemes used in diagrams. Unfortunately I think the dates 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. can only be displayed as 1,2,3,4 etc. so you can't display '11th June 2013' but you can display '11 June 2013'. I don't know which text scheme the trial version of FH uses but if it is not displaying dates in this way you can change it. Right-click in the background of a diagram and select Diagram Options. Then select the Text tab. The text scheme in use will be highlighted. Click Edit on the right. Then in the Edit Text Scheme dialog change the Date Format (near the centre of the top) to Long. Then click OK, and again click OK in the Diagram Options box.
I hope this is some help.
