I have today purchased the download version of version 5 and have tried to install it . When finished, I get the following message 'ERROR Access violation at 0x770645D7 (tried to read from 0xC204C48B). program terminated Last CP is RF.
I do not understand any of this, I have emailed Calico Pie but so far have not had any replies.
also, I understand that I have to overlay this new version onto version4 which is on my desk top but when I try the drag and drop method I am still left with two ikons.
Any suggestions please, I will be most grateful

I would advise you first install V5 over V4 on your old desktop PC.
This will simplify the transfer to your new PC.
Which versions of Windows are on your two PC? (XP/Vista/7/8?)

Mike,
I don't think Ron is talking about transferring anything to a new PC:  just installing V5 on his existing PC, with an icon on the desktop.

Hopefully he resolved the issues he raised in another thread recently: http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... y&num=6996

I wonder whether some of his existing data is still misplaced? I don't think that would explain the error message though.

Thank you Lorna and Mike for your input. Lorna is correct Mike when she says that I only have the one PC. In all probability it was my fault not expressing myself clearly.
I have now had a reply from Calico Pie which is as follows:
We reply in plain text so do not specify a size it will use the default for your web client.

1. Make sure you do not have Family Historian Running when you try to install this is the most common reason for this problem.

2. Turn off Any AntiVirus or other similar programs while installing

Certainly I did not have F.H. runningand as far as I know I do not have any anti virus on my PC. So this reply does not address my problem.

After some thought I would now like to remove version 5 from my version 4 Ikon and then remove version 5 altogether. whether or not I can recover my payment remains to be seen.
Can you please tell me how to remove version 5?
Thank you both for your time and interest

Ron, you may not remember, but the method of removing FH V5 is the same as you used last month to uninstall FH V4.
It should be Uninstalled via the Windows 7 Control Panel > Programs and features.

It is quite likely that V5 has overwritten V4, so uninstalling V5 will leave you with no FH installed.

If so, then it would be worth trying to install V5 again from this clean slate.
If that works then all is OK.

If it does not work, then it will need to be uninstalled as above, and V4 reinstalled.

Yesterday I had a call from Calico Pie who spoke to me through a program called 'join us'. the young lady that I spoke to took hold of my pc and helped me considerably. I would just like to say a very big thank you. I can now start work on The Peabodies.
