Custom Facts

Post by MikeC » 01 Aug 2023 11:14

As a newbie, many thanks to the Forum for the help so far on other matters and hope I am posting in the correct place. I am currently using FH version 6.2

I have tried looking in Help and at Youtube tutorials without success.

What I am trying to do, following family requests, is to add a couple of custom facts to show "Holidays" and "Cars" so I can add special holidays and cars to an individual. In effect add data on the individuals Fact pages to show "they" drove a "make and model" of car from "date" to "date" or "they" went on Holiday to "place" from "date" to "date" and in both cases then be able to add further notes in a note box.

I have tried adding custom attributes called "Car" and "Holiday" but on the input screen can get age, place and date but not add any label. I would like something similar to occupation or education but car or holiday.

I did find a "clone" button thinking I could clone occupation or education but change the name and inputs from "occ" to "Holiday" or "car" and then add details but I am struggling. I am sure it must be possible but cannot fathom how.

Many thanks in advance

Mike

A fact can either be an Event or Attribute. Occupation is an Attribute so it gets the extra Value field. Create the Car fact like this:

For the Holiday it could probably just be an Event because you would use the Place field to record the holiday destination and wouldn't necessarily need the value field.

In both cases the date field would be used to record the range of dates. e.g.:

In case it helps, for the example screenshot I set the fact up like this:

Absolutely brilliant!😀😀👍

This worked a treat and such a quick response too. Many thanks. It goes to show the benefit of the Forum…

Of course I now have to work out if ai need to abbreviate my uncle’s

Armstrong Sidley Star Safire saloon Mark Two to get it to fit…ha..ha! 😂😂 but I’m sure I’ll find a way.

Again, many thanks Nick. Much appreciated

There is already the standard Title Attribute for titles.

The name of the Car can be as long as you like. It does not have to fit in the box. That generally goes for most text boxes.
The size of the box does not limit the size of the text field stored internally.
You use the Home, End, and left/right arrow keys to move along the text which automatically scrolls.

Many thanks Mike,👍
I was sort of joking 😂 as it is the longest car name I have heard of (albeit my Uncle John loved reeling it off to folk) but well worth knowing the fields are not length restricted.

I have moved this topic to the non-specific General Usage category, as it is not connected with Diagrams & Charts.
