I hope someone can help, I would like to be able to link and display events in my family history with more general historical events such as wars, who is on the throne, disasters etc.
Is there a way to do this.

Welcome to the FHUG.

There are some techniques in the FHUG Knowledge Base > Downloads > Fact Queries > Timeline Facts – Overview.

They produce a Query Result Set with Individual Facts merged with more general historical events.

Feeling a bit thick, but I got as far as the bit about creating a Timeline Named List and this stumped me. How do I go about creating the following:

"The Query also relies on a Named List of Individual records that are unrelated to the Key Individual. They may be just acquaintances, or significant historical figures such as monarchs, or a collection of historical facts, which could have special names such as Colonial Wars /! Historical Facts/."

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but really can't conceive of the next step.

Teresa, I'm not sure which aspect has got you stumped.

Creating Individual records is the normal process of adding Facts to Individuals and perhaps close relatives.
It is just that the Individuals are significant people from history such as Kings, Queens, Presidents, etc.
Or they are dummy Individuals with a Name like Colonial Wars /! Historical Facts/ that hold historical Facts.

Those monarchs' and presidents' Individual records are selected in the Records Windows and added to a Named List.
Some of the Queries prompt for the name of the Named List.

Some of the Queries automatically include Individual records whose Surname starts with ‘! Historical ‘

Ah, ok, I get it now...I somehow had the impression the info was included somewhere already and just needed to be triggered. RootsMagic has a spin-off program that does this, so that's probably how I interpreted what I was reading.

Now I get when you mean...not sure there are enough hours in my day to customize to this extent, at least while I'm still working F/T.

As always - thanks for the clarification!
