Emigration & Travel
I've amended the emigration fact for travel but now there is no fact for emigration! How daft is that. Can't someone make up facts for both or do I have to ask CP?

Re: Emigration & Travel
Rather than amending an existing fact, you should have created a custom fact for Travel.

If you’ve amended the fact rather than copying it, why do you expect the old version to still be available…?

Re: Emigration & Travel
To be fair, John has done something similar to what I do; I've repurposed the Immigration fact for 'Travelled' (to use the To and From Places) and retained the Emigration fact for 'genuine' emigrations. Although I find Travelled covers everything if supplemented with Notes to indicate whether this was just a journey between two places or an (intended) permanent relocation.

John
This seems very similar to when you asked in this 'Travel' thread https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic ... 32&t=21736

Re: Emigration & Travel
Mark, copying the fact does not work either because the copy uses the same standard GEDCOM code and will eclipse the original fact.
We discussed this topic at length with John in the Travel (21736) thread earlier this year but it does not seem to have come to a conclusion because John did not respond to some of the questions.

Re: Emigration & Travel
Nobody has given me an answer yet as to why there isn't specific 'facts' for travel and emigration?

Re: Emigration & Travel
Family Historian provides a selection of Facts.
YOU need to create any other non standard facts such as Travel, by creating a custom fact.

Re: Emigration & Travel
I think you are asking is: Can there be two specific facts for Travel and Emigration that both have a Place field and a To field?
That was partly answered in the Travel (21736) thread so here goes again.
The really short answer is that Calico Pie cannot predict every fact that every user might want so in the default facts there is no Travel fact. You could contact Calico Pie and request them to provide one but that might take a long time.
The Tools > Fact Types... command has the Extended Set which offers the Arrival and Departure custom facts that are synonymous with Travel but they only have one Place field.
The Emigration fact already exists with both a Place field and a To field.
The Immigration fact already exists with a Place field and a From field.
You could rename that to be a Travel fact but you would lose the Immigration fact and when exported to another product would revert to being an Immigration fact.
It was explained in the Travel (21736) thread how a add a custom To field in the Note field to a custom Travel fact.
See Show Fact Fields in the Property Box.

Re: Emigration & Travel
I think I've fixed it by editing the Immigration fact as I don't seem to use that.
