Splash screen in v7.0.21.0

Post by RS3100 » 12 Jun 2023 14:14

The list of updates for version 7.0.21.0 includes an adjustment to the behaviour of the splash screen for multiple monitors.

"If you have multiple monitors, the Splash screen did not always appear where the main window would appear. It now appears centred on where the ‘restored’ (i.e. when not maximized) version of the Window will be."

I have a single desktop monitor and normally use the default screen on my laptop, although I did configure it to use the desktop monitor for several days when the PSU on my desktop PC failed and I was waiting for a replacement to arrive, so it does have two monitors shown in the display settings.

FH always opens full screen on both my machines, and whereas before the latest update the splash screen would always appear in the centre of the screen, it now appears to the right of the screen on my desktop and against the left edge of the screen on my laptop. I know this is a very trivial thing to moan about (as it seems to me would be the issue that led to the "fix" being applied) but it upsets my slightly OCD sensibilities and there doesn't seem to be an option to turn off the splash screen, unless I've missed it.

Is anyone else seeing similar behaviour?

I don’t know whether one can control the position of the splashscreen, but a tap on the spacebar will clear it altogether. This was in response to a complaint I made of FH being ‘locked’ until splashscreen closed.

The FH Update says it positions the splash screen centrally over the main FH window in its Restored Down position.
So use Restore Down, then position the FH window centrally and Close FH.
Then when FH starts the splash screen should be central and you can return to Maximised full-screen mode.
The splash screen should continue to be displayed centrally. Repeat on the other PC.

Ah. On both machines FH when restored down occupies the right half of the screen, so that I can still refer to and enter data into it whilst viewing information in the left half.

I'm not going to change that just to reposition the splash screen, so I guess I'll just have to live with it. It would have made more sense to change the behaviour only if the program detects that two or more displays are in use.

It may just be me, but having the splash screen momentarily appear on a different display to that in which the program opens wouldn't irritate me at all, but it popping up off centre does .

It still doesn't explain why it opens mid right of the screen on my desktop monitor but hard left on the laptop, when FH restores down to the right half of the screen on both though?
