I forgot to say how to check which OneDrive account you are using.
On the Desktop PC, click the OneDrive cloud icon in the Notification area bottom right.
Click the cog Help & Settings top right and choose Settings.
In the OneDrive Settings dialogue click Account on the left.
Make a note of the Account details of Name and Email address.
Also, note the Storage details shown bottom left.
On the Laptop PC, repeat that process and compare the Account and Storage details, which should be identical.

That is progress - Edward-Personal is what you should be seeing in File Explorer, it is the name of your OneDrive cloud folder. It should appear in File Explorer as per the screenshot of my File Explorer below. This ID should show in File Explorer on both computers.erowland wrote: ↑13 Jun 2023 10:11Mike
I have saved a Word document to Desktop OneDrive. This has synced with OneDrive documents on the Laptop.
I sign into Microsoft account with [redacted email one] and also [redacted email two] to both computers.
The path for the Word document on the Desktop was C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDrive documents
The path for the Wodr Doc on the Laptop was: Edward-Personal\OneDrive Documents
Please note that on the Laptop I have OneDrive and OneDrive Documents. The path for OneDrive is:
Local DiscC:\Users\Toshiba\OneDrive
There is another path on OneDrive C:\Users\Toshiba\OneDrive\Family Historian Projects\Rowland Fam desktop 22 12 2015(27.3.16).fh_data
Edward
(edited by moderator to remove plain text email addresses).
When the PC and laptop have fully synchronised, can you open File Explorer on your PC and then open Edward-Personal as per my example above and save a screen image. This will give a clearer picture of what is synchronising where.

However, that account can have multiple email aliases which can be used to sign in interchangeably (with the same password).

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Edward, I cannot help but notice that your Microsoft OneDrive Account Email address has changed several times over recent years. Is there any particular reason?
Now the OneDrive folders should be fully synchronised, which can be confirmed via Windows File Explorer.
So please confirm that on both PC there are identical sub-folders within one OneDrive folder you reported for each PC.
i.e.
Desktop: C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\...
Laptop: C:\Users\Toshiba\OneDrive\...
e.g.
They should both have \OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects\
But may also have \FamilyHistorian\Family Historian Projects\ &/or \Family Historian Projects\ based on your earlier feedback.

Yes Microsoft OneDrive Account Email address has changed over recent years. I dont think these changes were deliberate on my part. More likely from a inadequate understanding on my part and perhaps work done by technical people in Ireland and Spain.
I have accessed sub folder via Windows file explorer on both computers as follows
Desktop.
C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDriveDocuments\Family Historian Projects. Bowen, Sample, Rowland and Sharon Gibbons projects displayed. However I am unable to access all the projects. Previously I used the FH icon app to open FamilyHistorian. This no longer works.
Laptop
OneDrive Documents
Family Historian Projects via Windows file explorer
C:\Users\Toshiba\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects. Bowen, Sample, Rowland and Sharon Gibbons projects displayed but not able to display in the Project Window.
The FH icon app opens the Project Window and displays the following Family Historian Projects:
Family Historian Sample Project, Rowland Family(2) and Sharon Gibbons Tree.

What does it show in the project window for Location:?
On the desktop, t needs to show the folder which contains your projects on your desktop. On you laptop, it needs to show the folder which contains you projects on you laptop.

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
That is the FH default folder - you need to click on the location path as shown in the red box in Bills message and browse to find your "OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects" folder.
You need to do this on both PC and Laptop, you should then see the projects in the projects window.

When you install FH, it creates the 'Family Historian Projects' folder in the default documents folder (for windows, usually My Documents) - and installs the sample project there. If you move the Projects folder somewhere else (e.g. OneDrive) - then you have to manually edit the location in the Project Window to tell FH7 where your projects are stored - FH can't do that automatically.

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Guys, it also depends on how OneDrive has been configured.
Sometimes, the default Windows My Documents folder can be inside the OneDrive folder.
Then the FH Project Window default Location: My Documents\Family Historian Projects will work just fine.
If you look back over this thread that has been the case for Edward as the ...\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\ folder is his Windows default Documents folder.
That alternative config is explained in FHUG KB Synchronising Family Historian between 2 PCs under Microsoft OneDrive and Alternative method using Auto-save Update Folders option where the default Location: does not need to change.
Edward, let us focus on the Desktop. Use Start and scroll down to the Family Historian folder, open it and run FH from its icon there, as shown in the screenshot below. Does that run FH?

I have scrolled down on Desktop, to Family Historian, opened and clicked on FH icon.
Result : Focus Window Sharon Gibbons Family 6 Nov 2018 Root person .(There is was no data in this project and is really superfluous. I click on File > Project Window> Family Historian Sample Project. This project can be opened and displayed.

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
So that proves FH is installed and runs OK from the Start menu FH Icon.
Where is the FH Icon you used before that did not work?
On the Start window righthand pane, or in the Taskbar across the bottom, or on the Desktop screen?
If clicking that FH Icon still does not run FH then use the following fixes using the Start menu FH icon you used just now.
1) Right-click the Start menu FH icon and choose Pin to Start to copy it to the Start pane.
2) Right-click the Start menu FH icon and choose More > Pin to taskbar to copy it to the Taskbar.
3) Copying to the Desktop screen is different. Close all programs so the Desktop screen is visible. Hover the cursor over the Start menu FH Icon and hold down the left mouse button, then drag it onto the Desktop screen and release the mouse button.
Do those new FH Icons now open FH satisfactorily?
Once that is working we can fix the File > Project Window > Location to get the Projects listed.

I have carried out 1,2 and 3. and using the icons has the effect as I described in my previous post ie Sharon Gibbons Family 6 Nov 2018 etc. So as you say FH is instaled and runs ok from Start menu, Desktop and Taskbar.albeit with limited results. I guess this is what I meant in my earlier postings.

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
Edward, as I said earlier, it helps us if you can be very precise.
You said "Previously I used the FH icon app to open FamilyHistorian. This no longer works."
So I took that to mean that the FH Icon no longer opened Family Historian.
If you can open FH and display the File > Project Window then we can continue to focus on the Desktop PC.
You said that C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDriveDocuments\Family Historian Projects seems to hold several Projects.
So in the FH File > Project Window, click My Documents\Family Historian Projects next to Location.
Select Choose Location... and browse to C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDriveDocuments\Family Historian Projects
Finally, click OK and several Family Historian Projects should be listed in the top pane.
If so, can you open each of those Projects in turn?
In that Family Historian Projects pane, right-click the one you prefer to open by default and choose Set as Default Project.
It should gain a small green tick on its icon on the left.
Now close and re-open FH.
Does it automatically open that default Project?
Does File > Project Window... still list all your Projects?

I understand that lack of precision is confusing
I have opened FH and displayed the file> Project Window
I have clicked on Location "My Documents\Family Historian Projects" and browsed for Folder Box
I do not see C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDriveDocuments\Family Historian Projects in the Folder Box
I do see "OneDrive Documents" and when I click on it it displays
Family Historian Project
>Bowen
>Family Historian Sample
>Rowland Family

I have not proceeded further

Ok, you are nearly there.
After OneDrive Documents, select Family Historian Projects and click OK.
(BTW: If you scroll up in the Browse For Folder window you should find This PC and inside that the Windows (C:) drive, inside that Users, inside that Edward, and so on...)
Then continue with my earlier instructions...
Make a note of these steps somewhere safe so that you can repeat them when necessary.
Also if you do not understand why they are necessary then please ask.
It is important you understand these processes so you can use them without having to keep asking for advice.

Perhaps I should not have mentioned the BTW
Did you keep on browsing down to OneDrive then OneDrive Documents and Family Historian Projects?
Forget I mentioned it and use the method you were originally using.
The last folder you must select is Family Historian Projects before clicking OK.
i.e. The folder where the Project folders (Bowen, FH Sample Project, Rowland, etc) reside.

I reverted to the original method suggested, selected Family Historian Projects, clicked OK. Location is now: C:\Users\Edward\\OneDrive\OneDriveDocuments\Family Historian Projects
List of Family Historian Projects -Bowen,FH Sample, Rowland Family, (Last updated 01/01/1971) Sharon Gibbons Tree
Current Project: None
I have exited FH and restarted and opened each project. The Project Window for each project has "Current Project: None"
The Bowen, Sample and Gibbons projects seem ok.
I have right clicked on Rowland Family to make it the default bit no coloured icon appears Sharon Gibbons did have the icon and I removed that.
When I attempt to open the Rowland Family I get the followin dialog box and message " Unable to open file C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects\Rowland Family\Rowland Family.fh_data\Rowland Family.ged"

Re: Have lost access to FH on desktop and laptop (OneDrive)
The File > Project Window... Location: is now correctly referring to the OneDrive Family Historian Projects folder.
I'm a bit confused when you say you have opened each Project in turn, yet the Project Window for each project says "Current Project: None". It should name the currently open Project. Perhaps you are closing FH each time instead of returning to the Project Window to open the next Project.
More concerning is the Rowland Family project. The Last Updated date 01/01/1971 indicates a fault with the GEDCOM file, which is confirmed when you try to open that project.
Use Windows File Explorer to investigate the Rowland Family project folder:
C:\Users\Edward\OneDrive\OneDrive Documents\Family Historian Projects\Rowland Family\Rowland Family.fh_data\
I'm not interested in the folders Books through to Settings.
I am interested in any .ged or .tmp or other files, and the contents of the Snapshots folder.
Attached screenshots would be better than your typed descriptions.
See Forum Usage Tips for advice on Screenshots and Attachments.
Do you have any recent full project backups for the Rowland Family project?
