adding generation number to a query

Before I go mad, please can someone tell me how to display generation numbers in a query? I have hunted through the kb and searched the forums, and read through the query chapters in the book.

I created a custom query a few years ago to print a list of ancestors to add to the front of a binder of certificates. Had columns of name, relationship, generation, birth date, mother, father, death date. Preparing another binder now, I added place of birth to the query, but it was too wide to print nicely, so deleted it but somehow deleted generation too. Now I cannot find out how to add it back in. Without it, my list is jumbled, or if sorted by relationship separates mother and father by loads of grand and greats :(

I've moved this to the General Usage forum as it fits better there.

The one thing you have not checked is FH itself.
Try the Query > Relatives and Relationships > Ancestors and plagiarise its Generation column.

May I suggest you use one of the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugins to preserve your customisations?
Then you can restore old custom Queries, Diagrams, Reports, etc.

Thanks Mike, as always. Not sure now where I put the post but thanks for moving it.

I thought I looked at all the 'relationship' queries but clearly didn't see that sorry; i did actually get as far as entering =RelationCode but couldn't then work out what to add after that.

I do backup my projects but have never needed to do a restore so didn't think of that option.

Going off to hide now :(

I'm not sure if you understood my suggestion.
Project Backups do not save Queries, Diagrams, Reports, etc. So restoring them will not get custom Queries back.
You must use one of the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugins from the Plugin Store.

Thanks Mike, yet another thing I didn’t know.
