more forgiving error range for ages

Post by DJY » 27 May 2023 01:17

I keep trying to find ways to customize the property box and I keep running into the issue that it's not customizable, but here goes another attempt.... :)

I'd like to expand the tolerance for the warning exclamation mark on inputted ages in the property box. For instance, if the inputted age is within 2 years of the age calculated based on the birthdate, I would like to consider that close enough to not be flagged with an exclamation point. Currently, it has to match within 1 year to avoid the warning signal. Is there a way to change that?

Sorry, I don't think that is possible. The Help file just says " If the age information is inconsistent with other information already held, Family Historian will add an exclamation mark in brackets after the displayed data (e.g. “22 (!)”). " There is no mention of expanding the tolerance.

There is a small amount of tolerance if an age is entered in years and months, because FH only appears to check the years. So if the person is (according to their recorded birth date) 25 years and 11 months old you can enter 25 years and 1 month and the excamation mark won't show, even though there is a discrepancy of 10 months. Unfortunately if you enter 26 years and 1 month the exclamation mark will show, even though that is only 2 months out! I have reported this to CP who "logged it for investigation".

Thanks! I appreciate your willingness to respond. I thought it might be unchangeable.
