I just downloaded FH7 to try it out. I have uploaded Birth, Baptism, and COD scans of PDF documents for an individual under the media tab. For the Baptism fact, I was able to link in the Certificate of Baptism to a citation (linked to the PDF file under media). I don't know what I did. I can't seem to do the same for the birth and COD certificates. I'm assuming linking the sources under citations is what I want to do. I don't yet understand what the difference is between splitters and lumpers is.

How do media, sources and citations work together? I'm just starting, so I want to make sure I'm linking everything properly before I get in too far.

Hello, welcome to FHUG.

The media tab for the individual is normally reserved for photos of the individual, not for images of documents. The recommended practice for certificates of birth, baptism, death etc, is to create a Source record first, with (optionally) a transcription of the details in the Text from source field. The image of the certificate is then linked to the Source record, and the Source record is cited as evidence for a variety of facts which can be derived from it.

Have you looked at any of the introductory articles in the Knowledge Base? This one Sources and Citations in Version 7 (for New Users) will hopefully answer your initial questions.

There is a lot to learn about FH so it is worth spending time studying before diving in, as you have already realised.
