Favourite Repositories
I've now got a list of favourite repositories but when I add another one to the list, it doesn't show in alphabetic order but stays at the bottom of the list. Is there a way of correcting this?

Re: Favourite Repositories
I guess you mean Bookmarked Repositories in FH?
Click on the Repository Records column heading to sort alphabetically. Just the same as most lists.

Re: Favourite Repositories
John,
If you view them in the records window, you can sort them on any column. Then when you want one, they should be in the order you sorted them on, just like sources.
For example I sort my sources in the order I use most often, then when I want one, the most likely candidates are always at the top. For any others, I start typing in the Filter box, and locate the one I want that way. The filter works on the characters as you type, regardless of where the character appear in the source name.
HINT I add an underscore character at the start of the Name for my most used generic sources, so that when I sort them alphabetically, the underscored ones are listed first.

Repositories
As I tend to add more of the above to my 'favourites' list they end up at the bottom of that list. Is there a way of getting them into order by title permanently, other than clicking on the top line?

I have merged this with the same topic you asked in March when you were happy with the answer.

Re: Favourite Repositories
Yes I was pleased with the original reply but how to keep them in alphabetical order instead of the new ones staying at the bottom of the list, Mike, permanently?

Re: Favourite Repositories
John, I think you are talking about a Named List called Favourites that appears in the Records Window.
If my guess is wrong then the following advice won't work.
After adding some more Repository records to your Favourites list perform the following few steps.
Click the Records column heading in the Favourites list to sort them alphabetically.
Then right-click the Favourites list in the Named List pane above and choose Keep Current List Order.
Click OK in the popup message and click the Save button top left.
Thereafter, the Favourites will stay in that order permanently.
That needs to be repeated each time you add records to the list.

Re: Favourite Repositories
John, if you are using a Named List for your Favourites then it looks like this:
If you are using something else then please tell us in more detail what commands you use to manage the Favourites.
Posting a screenshot would be very helpful as explained in Forum Usage Tips Attachments and Taking Screenshots.

Re: Favourite Repositories
Mike, I think John is probably still talking about Bookmarked repositories, which you mentioned in your first reply (10 March).
If so, then the answer to his question on 28 April " ... Is there a way of getting them into order by title permanently, other than clicking on the top line?" is "no". You just need to click on the top line (first column heading) to re-sort them after adding more repositories to the list.

Re: Favourite Repositories
I think I assumed John was talking about the standard Bookmarks Named List in which he is listing Repository records.
That is where clicking the header is necessary to sort alphabetically, but the steps I gave apply to that Name List too and retain the sorted order permanently.
The only other Bookmarks are in the Web Search window but they are websites, not repositories, and sort automatically.

Re: Favourite Repositories
Perhaps John needs to clarify exactly what he is referring to when he talks about "favourite" repostories.

Re: Favourite Repositories
If the answer is 'yes' then John must display the Named Lists as shown in my screenshot and follow the steps I gave earlier but for the Bookmarks Name List instead of the Favourites Named List.
The screenshot Lorna has provided shows a way of adding Repository records to any Named List and has the unique feature of displaying the Bookmarks list.

Re: Favourite Repositories
John, open the Records Window as shown in my screenshot posted yesterday.
Click the Lists button top right as highlighted in my screenshot.
Then follow these steps:
Select the Named List that holds your Repository records.
(I'm not sure whether you called it Bookmarks or Favourites only you know that.)
Click the Records column heading in the list to sort them alphabetically.
Then right-click the list in the Named List pane above and choose Keep Current List Order.
Click OK in the popup message and click the Save button top left.
Thereafter, they will stay in that order permanently until you add some more Repository records to the list.

Re: Favourite Repositories
On 28 April John said "As I tend to add more of the above to my 'favourites' list they end up at the bottom of that list. Is there a way of getting them into order by title permanently, other than clicking on the top line?"
The short answer to his question is still "no". As Mike has said, his steps only work until you add some more Repository records to the list. Newly added ones will still go to the bottom of the list, so you need to repeat those steps each time you add more to the list.
One other option John could try is to use the Show Recent button (to the right of the bookmark icon) in the Select Repository window.

Re: Favourite Repositories
Hi Mike, never seen that before but have found under Lists my 'bookmarks' and followed your clear instructions to get them into order.
Presumably if I add another repository to my bookmarks then it'll be rinse and repeat will it?

Yes.

Re: Favourite Repositories
You can also manually sort the bookmarked repositories to the order you want (maybe the most commonly used at the top, and the rest alphabetically) by selecting the rows in the Bookmarks list and using the up and down arrows (and then saving as Mike said).
