Is there any way to get a list of 'Name Only' witnesses please?
When I first started to use Family Historian, I added "name only" witnesses to marriage certificates and grants of probate etc. for people who I did not know anything else about ie they were not obviously relatives of the prinicpals involved.
As time has gone on, I've discovered that many of these were related, such as sons-in-law, and I now want to correct these so that the witness is the correct individual in my project.
Is there any way to get a list of these "name only" witnesses to check against the individuals with records in the project?
Many thanks in advance
Andrew

Sorry I've just found the link to Jane's List all Witnesses plug-in - should have checked before!

Unfortunately on trying the run the plugin in version 7 I get an errror message
61:attempt to index a nil value (gobal 'arg')
So does anyone have any suggestions to my original enquiry please?

See thread Witness reporting (11976) that has my List Name Only Witnesses plugin attached.
BTW: Jane's List all Witnesses plugin only lists linked witnesses not name only witnesses and does not work in FH V7.
In the above thread, there is another List all Witness Events v7 attachment that claims to work in FH V7.

Is that a good example of the recent discussion about making plugins easier to find? It’s an obscure thread with three different plugins (complementary or competing?) by three different authors.
Should there be one agreed version in the store, with the others retired?

Or even competing versions in the store if they have different interfaces or features. There's no reason to go for one agreed version. As long as what they all do is documented, and they're easy to find (why aren't they already in the store?)

Absolutely - if they take a different approach to solve the same problem, competition is good. I was thinking more along the lines of two different versions of the same plugin at different stages of development or with different bug fixes.

Thnk you so much for your replies to this query, pointing me in the right direction.
I'd agree that it would be very useful to have a list of plugins not in the store too
Many thanks

Re: Is there any way to get a list of 'Name Only' witnesses please?
In the Witness reporting (11976) thread Jane's original 2014 plugin only listed linked Individual Fact Witnesses.
It crashed if there were no such Fact Witnesses and did not work in FH V7.
My minor 2015 adaptation listed just Name Only Fact Witnesses and also did not work in FH V7.
In 2021, obstinatesnooper added some columns to Jane's linked Individuals plugin and made it work for FH V7.
In 2022, I made my Name Only plugin work for FH V7.
I know Jane is far too busy to update and publish the plugin, and I doubt if obstinatesnooper will publish it, so I have published a combined and enhanced linked Individuals and Name Only Fact Witness details plugin that works for both FH V6 and V7 called List Fact Witness Details.
I'm not sure how we would go about listing plugins attached to forum postings that are not in the Plugin Store.

I'm not sure we should attempt to do so. IMO plugins useful to more than a single user ought to be in the plugin store.

Re: Is there any way to get a list of 'Name Only' witnesses please?
Thanks, Mike, I think that’s the right approach.
I think the proposal on the table was that we do not create a plugin list, as FHUG is not a second tier store. Plugins that are still relevant and useful (as this one clearly is) get moved into the CP store, so they are more visible and can be properly documented and maintained. Plugins that are now largely obsolete or aimed at a very niche requirement (such as solving a single user’s issue) stay here.

Hi Mike, I have run this Plugin in in Name only witness mode (ie using Cancel to bypass Individual Selection and found a slight issue.tatewise wrote: ↑20 Feb 2023 11:08so I have published a combined and enhanced linked Individuals and Name Only Fact Witness details plugin that works for both FH V6 and V7 called List Fact Witness Details.
In the screenshot the Name Only: RNLI is listed against Ambrose Barnes. It actually belongs to Evelyn Elizabeth Dixon just above. When run against the full set of individuals in the file it is listed correctly.

Thank you for that feedback David. It is a silly coding error in the plugin
Try the attached List Fact Witness Details plugin Version 1.0.1 Date 21 Feb 2023 that should fix the problem.

The List Fact Witness Details plugin Version 1.1 Date 23 Feb 2023 is now in the Plugin Store.
All prototype plugin attachments will shortly be deleted.
