Question re text in diagrams...

Post by fhtess65 » 16 Feb 2023 15:49

Good morning (I'm on the West Coast of Canada),

Is there a way to bold the Marriage and Spouse name in a diagram? I've looked everywhere I can think of in the diagram options, but can't see anything that allows me to modify the text line by line. This family is quite large, so having the spouse in a separate box makes the diagram either very wide or very tall, neither of which works for my purpose (an image on my blog).

Am I missing something? Or is it just not an option?

Thanks!

Yes, you need to add some Font items to the Diagram Text Scheme.
With the Diagram open use Diagram > Options and open the Text tab.

I advise using the Clone... button to create a custom copy of the current Text Scheme (unless it is already customised).
On the custom copy use Edit Text Scheme... and focus on the Used Items on the right which should include a <font =...> item.
Select that <font =...> item and click Clone Line in the toolbar below.
Use the black down arrow to move it down to just above the Marriage item.
Now Clone Line again and move that copy down to just below the Spouse Name item.

Select the <font =...> item just above Marriage and click Edit and in the popup click << Select.
Now you can choose whatever font style you prefer such as Bold, Underline, Colour, etc.
Click OK several times to return to the Diagram and your Marriage and Spouse should use the new font.

Thanks, Mike - Am saving these instructions for the weekend. How I missed Clone line I don't know, but I figured it was something like that. I've already Cloned and edited Text Scheme, so will work with that. As always, appreciate your help :)

Strictly speaking the edited <font =...> item should adopt the same Box Type and Conditions settings as the Spouse Name item so that the font is only applied when the One box per marriage option is chosen on the Main tab.
Otherwise, that special font will apply to the Marriage item even when the default Spouse in own box option is chosen.

Good to know - thanks. I've tried it on the chart I was working on and it worked a treat :)
