Query including marriage event

Post by KieranCM » 09 Feb 2023 17:53

I’m trying to create a query to search for people with a spouse listed but no marriage event, however I can’t find on the query window a marriage event to add to the query,

Can anyone help?

Query Type must be set to Family in the General tab.
In the Rows tab Add if %FAM.MARR[1]% is null as the filter.
In the Columns tab Add Husband %FAM.HUSB[1]>%, Wife %FAM.WIFE[1]>%, Marriage Date %FAM.MARR[1].DATE% and Marriage Place %FAM.MARR[1].PLAC>%. This will allow you to verify results are as desired.

Welcome to the FHUG Kieran.

I suspect you are using an Individual type of Query and are not aware that there are many other types of Query.

The Marriage Event is a Family fact (it has a red bullet in the Facts tab) so it is not held in an Individual record.
It can be found in an Individual type of Query via the Family as Spouse and Events but it gets tricky with multiple Spouses.

So, it is much easier to use a Family type of Query in which you can filter directly for a missing Marriage Event.
That will list all Family records without a Marriage and the HUSB and WIFE links identify the spouses.
Gary has given some specific details but got carried away with Marriage Date & Place which won't exist :D

See the FHUG Knowledge Base > An Overview of Queries especially under Custom Query Types.

Yes, the Marriage Date & Place will come up null in the results. I added these just to verify results.

That is great, many thanks.
Just trying to evaluate fully before my trial is up, but definitely much much more impressed with FH than I was with other services I’ve used such as TribalSource.
