* Fan Chart - highlight ancestors in different colours based on country of birth

Hi,

I read a facebook post (see attached) about an option in Family Search that enables a Fan Chart to highlight ancestors in different colours based on country of birth.

I wondered if it might also be possible with Family Historian.

I had a look at the options (V7.0.18) but I couldn't see a way to make it work. I'm a relatively new user so have probably missed something obvious.

Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Welcome to the FHUG Craig.

In most tree diagrams the box features such as colour, shape, shadow, text, etc, can be conditional on data items.
However, Fan Charts use inserted Text box shapes that can only have their features changed manually.
So you could manually change the colour of each box based on country of birth, but it cannot be automated.

You would have to Ungroup each box and change its Format Line and Fill options.

Appreciate the clarification. Shame it can't be automated, may tackle it manually when I have the time.

Do you perhaps know of another chart or report that provides an overview or summary of ancestors by birth country?

Any of the family tree diagrams (Ancestors, Descendants, Ancestors & Descendants, All Relatives, etc.) could be quite easily customised to give each box a distinctive feature based on Country of Birth. That could be a box colour or an icon showing the national flag of the country.

I doubt if a Publish > Report option would provide Country of Birth details but a custom Query could.
For examples of Queries that do something similar see FHUG Knowledge Base > Downloads > Queries > Individual Queries >

Born in Place
Location
You can customise them further to achieve specifically what you want.
