Focussing or Charting from a Record in a Query

After I run a query, I can click on a person and the record window opens OK. But, focus and all chart options are greyed out.
Is there a way of getting those to work. (At the moment, I'm rather tediously entering the Record ID# into the 'Go To' field in the records list.)
Many thanks.

Do you mean the Property Box (not the record window) opens OK?
If you have clicked on the individual’s name in the query results the Property Box for that person will open and the Focus and Chart options should all be enabled.
However if you click on another of the fields in the query results, the Property Box opens on the Facts tab and the relevant fact is pre-selected. In that case the Focus and key Chart options are greyed out. The quickest way to get to the individual in the Records window from that situation is to click the Go To Record icon in the Property Box toolbar (the icon with the small red arrow over a stack of three disks)

Contrary to what Lorna says, I don't believe the Chart options are greyed out when a Fact is selected.
The magnifying glass Focus icon in the toolbar top left is greyed out if an Individual record is not selected.
A screenshot of the problem showing the greyed-out options might help us understand better.
What type of Query are you running? Individual, Family, Fact, Source, Media, ...?
Have you any unusual circumstances? Unusual Tools > Preference settings? Running a standalone GEDCOM?

Mike, there is an option to display the four key diagram types in the main toolbar, as they always were before V7. (Tools > Preferences > Display > Include Key Diagrams on Main Toolbar). Many users from pre V7 will have chosen to continue that display. Those four icons are greyed out when a fact is selected from the query results, and I think it may be those the OP is referring to.

Sorry Lorna, but I still cannot get those four icons to be greyed-out in any circumstances and certainly not when a Fact is selected in the Query Result Set nor in the Property Box Facts tab. That is why we need a screenshot of the problem.

Lorna, no problem here, so why is your system different?
Why has your screenshot got no Focus Window icon above the Records Window icon in Navigation bar on left?
Have you set Startup in Records Window? I also tried that and made no difference to Diagram icons.

I have just found a possible cause. I have Tools > Preferences > Diagrams > Enable One-Click Diagram Display from Toolbar ticked. If I disable that option I get the same result as you. I can't think why that should make any difference, but it does!
Why has your screenshot got no Focus Window icon above the Records Window icon in Navigation bar on left?
Because I have FH set to open on the Records window. I hardly ever use the Focus window.

Yes, that is it!

It is because for one-click to work an Individual record must be selected.

Let's hope that is the explanation for rfj1001's problem. The original post said the problem occurred when clicking on a person (i.e. an Individual record?) in the query, but that shouldn't disable the Focus or key Diagram options unless there is some other cause we haven't found.
Anyway, the Go to Record icon in the Property box toolbar is the quick way to get to the Individual in the Records window without having to enter the Record ID.

Thanks Lorna and Mike,
The GoTo record icon approach certainly solves my problem.
Just for information I've file attached a screenshot of the query results showing a record that has been selected but with Focus and Key Diagram areas greyed out.

Ah! I think it's because you are using a 'surname only' column to select the individual. Although that opens the Property box for the individual it doesn't actively select the individual record for other purposes such as Focus or key Diagrams. If you add an extra column using %INDI% (default display of forename followed by surname) and use that to select the individual you should find the Focus and Diagram icons are active.
