FamilySearch hints

Post by rcpettit » 18 Dec 2022 18:36

Are there any plans to add FamilySearch to the internet data matches besides the two already there, FindmyPast and MyHeritage?

You would need to take that up with CP as they don't tend to release much detail on their plans. That said, I would imagine if FS were to allow a data match process they would likely invoke a definite cost that we, the users, would have to pay!.

Would you be looking for matches to the global megatree (FamilySearch FamilyTree) or to the historical records in FamilySearch (which is much closer to what FMP matching is now, so far as I know)?

Because actually, I'm not sure that FamilySearch supply an API to access the historical records in FS. They certainly supply an API to access the global megatree.

If you could access the historical records, then I suggest that the frustrating part with matches would be the same as I get now on direct enquiries of FS - those matches to historical records in FS that have come from commercial sites such as Ancestry and FMP, cannot be accessed via FamilySearch as that would abstract revenue from the comercial sites. So I get the basic index details but nothing else. That policy would have to continue.

Thanks for letting me know. Right now since I have 4 monitors, I keep a tab for Ancestry and Family search up on one of them. I got kind of lazy using familysearch in RM8 ;)
