Sounds like the Expanded All tab option would have helped me then, thanks.

You say:
I dislike that pseudo-separation of event and note - IIRC, it doesn't happen for individual events but does for all family events.
I don't understand. The Facts tab in the Individual Property Box shows facts exactly the same as in the Family Property Box.
Where is the difference you describe?
It's made visible in the Sources For: section below, rather than the Facts tab per se.
See the first screenshot showing Sources for the marriage of Robert Bruce and Sarah Nougues.

Now if you use the dropdown in Sources For:, you can find the sources for the Marriage Note to the marriage of Robert Bruce and Sarah Nougues - it's immediately below.

Marriage Event and Note-On-Marriage-Event can have different sources. As here! With individuals there is no separate source for a Note to an Individual's Event / Attribute.

It's all standard GEDCOM, IIRC, but is a mess as here, when I replaced the original very secondary source for the marriage event with a contemporary source but forgot to change the note source.

IMO What you have observed is a fault in FH. Have you reported it? It existed in FH V6 too.

The explanation is a little complicated...

In GEDCOM 5.5 and FH V6 or earlier, all local Note fields are allowed to have a Source Citation.
However, Individual fact local Note field Source Citations must be added via the All tab.
The Sources For list always shows Family fact local Note fields and shows Individual fact local Note fields in parentheses if they have a Source Citation but not otherwise.

In GEDCOM 5.5.1 local Note fields are not allowed to have Source Citations (strange but true).
However, to retain backward compatibility, FH V7 does allow local Note fields to have Source Citations.
They are handled in much the same way as in FH V6 except the Sources For list does not enclose Individual fact local Note fields in parentheses, but they still only appear when they have a Source Citation.

Interestingly, I believe GEDCOM 7 has reintroduced local Note field Source Citations.

Thank you for reporting that. I have logged the issue and it will be passed to the developers for evaluation
I didn't expect any other response, of course. Which isn't meant cynically...
