Residence fact not showing

Post by Ruth_W » 21 Nov 2022 16:37

I have a horrible feeling that the answer will be something obvious, but here goes ...!

Residence is not showing in the drop-down 'Add fact' list, nor is it under 'More facts'. Residence does show for people, but I think this is where I have entered it via AS for BMD/Census etc. If I try to add it as a new fact, I get a warning that it does exist - but where?

Within Tools / Fact Sets have you "ticked" the "Show Hidden" option - it is possible it's status may have been accidently changed to "hidden"!

When you click on More Facts to open the Fact Set window, what is selected in the Fact Set box at the top? Residence is a standard fact, so you need to be displaying either Standard or <All> fact sets. You should then be able to see the Residence fact.

By the way, once you have found it you can add it to the short Add Fact menu if you wish. Select it in the facts list, then click Edit on the right, then near the centre bottom of the Fact Definiton window tick Fast-Add Menu.

Yes, that's exactly what I had done! (and I thought I had checked this sort of thing). I knew it would be something silly  Thank-you so much! (another thing learned for the future)

Is there a way I can make it hidden in the 'Show timeline facts' button? - so it doesn't show all the time? (I suspect this is what I had tried to do a few weeks ago)

No, all the facts recorded for the individual themselves are displayed. The timeline facts which can be hidden are only facts relating to other family members. If you click the cog wheel icon just to the right of the Show Timeline Facts button and then select Timeline facts at the bottom of the list you will open another window which shows which timeline facts can be chosen for display.

Thank-you. I have been trying to read up on it, but that is the clearest explanation I've had!

I'm not sure what you are requesting as Timeline Facts don't include Residence facts (only Birth, Marry, Divorce & Death).
There is an FH Help page for Timeline Facts https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help ... ialog.html

Anyway, the Tools > Fact Types... Hide option only hides facts in that dialogue and not anywhere else.

Not quite true, Mike. It also hides a fact in the Add Fact dialog
