Column settings backup

Hi,
I am preparing for a new PC (Windows 7 to 11 and FHv6 - will be upgraded to 7 on new PC)
I have downloaded and run the plugin to backup settings (thank you!)
My question is, does this backup include my settings for columns in the record window? (I have added several)

Yes - you didn't say which plugin you used, but both include this in their backup. You should now install FH6 on your new PC and restore settings to that new installation. Once you are happy that is working correctly, upgrade the PC to FH7 by downloading and running the FH7 installation file, and all your custom settings should be preserved on upgrade.

Another useful option is to save your columns as a custom query, that way not only can they be easily recovered if needed, you can have multiple "sets" of columns which can be switched around as needed.

Many thanks for that, Jane.
It was the Windows plugon I used.
So I will just keep fingers crossed it all works (not very technical here!)

As Mark says, it is most important to install FH V6 on your new PC.
Then the saved settings should be preserved correctly.
Do
not install FH V7 on the new PC until you have successfully migrated all your Projects and the custom settings.
That is because the FH V6 settings are not compatible with FH V7.
See FHUG Knowledge Base
Family Historian Copy and Migration Guide for details.

Thank you.
I hope to get the new PC set up in the next few days, current FH most importantly.
Then I'll get down to re-reading all the information on upgrading.
Thanks so much to all you kind people who help.
