Plucking up courage to upgrade

I've been putting it off for too long and I've decided to upgrade tomorrow from my 6.2 to 7! There are just too many great new features to ignore it for any longer.

I've spent the day doing full backups of all my projects and saving copies on OneDrive for extra peace of mind.
I've also read everything on the Knowledge Base and the Calico site about things to bear in mind.

Last time I upgraded from an earlier version, I made a mess of saving my settings so this time I've decided to ignore all my previous settings and start afresh. Is that a daft decision? I think it would be easier for me to set myself some new settings based on the new tools and layout rather than carry over a hotchpotch of my old ones.

Change isn't easy when you're old and lacking in confidence! :?

How are you proposing to "start afresh"?

If you do nothing, then FH V7 will automatically inherit all your current FH V6 customisation settings.
Most of those settings are just as relevant to FH V7 as they were to FH V6 because many of the features are still the same.
(There are a few settings that need to be handled in a special way but those can be discussed later.)

You have backed up all your Projects, but just in case you need them, have you backed up all your custom settings by using one of the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugins?

Doing nothing and retaining my current settings sounds perfect! I tried using that plugin last time but I got in such a pickle with it that I ended up just manually recreating my old settings. When I said start afresh, I just meant that I would use the new default settings in Version 7 and adapt them as necessary. I only really need simple things like ensuring my diagrams show my favourite settings like birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial and occupation, and my chosen font or box colour.

Just a quick, cheerful update. I've upgraded and everything has gone very smoothly!
