Lost fact set

Post by ruthhenrietta » 26 Oct 2022 08:02

Good morning... I've managed to delete a custom fact set and all the data connected to it. I thought I'd be clever and go back to an older version of the project file, to enable me to see how I'd set up the fact set and reproduce the data, but whilst the old project file has the data, the fact set template seems to have disappeared.

Any suggestions as to how I can retrieve the custom fact set template?

Maybe there should be a pop up warning 'are you sure you want to delete this fact set' to stop people like me inadvertently deleting it?!

Ruth,

Most Custom Fact Sets are stored in the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Fact Types folder, not with the project file. This is because the Fact Set needs to be accessible to all projects.

Have you backed up your FH settings and customisations as detailed Backup and Recovery in the Knowledge Base? Do you have any other backup copy of this folder? If so, the Fact Set can be recovered from the backup.

If not, I'm afraid this is a hard lesson that any file that is not backed up is a file you are happy to do without...

Thanks @Mark1834 I backup the entire project folder - I didn't realise you had to do fact sets separately... as you say, lesson learned!
