Is there a way to exclude some of the aka names on a narrative report. I've put in different names so that the various sources are attached to the name variant found there.

John Quincy Adams (also known as John Q. Adams) -- seems a little silly.

I might only have one source spelling out the middle name and all the others only giving the initial. I don't want the citations to say that they all support the conclusion of the middle name.

Does this make sense?

In the persons Property box, you can right-click on the alternate name and assign it the Private flag.

I don't believe that is possible, unless 'Alternate Name' is a custom attribute fact.
The Name fields do not support the Private flag.

In Narrative Reports the only option is the Main tab Inc. Alternate Names setting that applies to all of them.

The only options I can think of are:

1. Move those names from Names fields to custom 'Alternate Name' attribute facts, which can be excluded from Reports.
2. Move the Source Citations to the Primary Name but add Notes to say what they do or do not prove and delete the Alternate Names.
3. Save Report As > Word-processor RTF file and edit out the names not wanted.

When I do a narrative report I save it in RTF then save it again as a word document. From the second save I edit it in the way I would like it to be. Most of the editing is to enlage the images like making census image a full page

Victor, do you realise the Sources images like Census pages can be increased in size in the FH Report Options?
See the Report > Options > Sources tab for Max. Picture Height/Width and Enlarge Small Pictures To Max.

Bev came from Rootsmagic, so yes, there is that possibility! If she used RM's alt name field and did a direct import of her database to FH she will be able to mark the alternative name as private.

Sorry, but you need to go into more detail about how that is possible.
If the flag used in RootsMagic is incompatible with the FH data model then it won't be recognised and can't affect reports.
Are you talking about the Primary Name and Alternate Name fields or a custom attribute fact called Alternate Name?
Please post a screenshot so we can understand what you are referring to.
Have you actually used such a flag to adjust FH Reports?

Yes, those Facts can have the Fact Flag ~ Private to hide them, but it is not clear whether Bev is using those Facts or the FH Alternate Name fields.

I was hoping to avoid editing an RTF as this sometimes causes formatting issues and a I'm not a Word wiz.

While I came from Rootsmagic, I did not import my data. I'm hand entering people and cleaning up my data as I go.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I just said isn't it? At least that is what came off my fingers. And no, it isn't equivalent to what you just said. Not for those that imported directly. There is no need for all of the screwing about to make FH happy, when one can simply flag them as private.
