Query No of kids

Going through my parent's old pictures, I've come across an unidentified picture of what I have to assume is a family group of husband and wife, 2 daughters and 2 sons. My family members have no clue who they might be.

I was wondering if there was a way to identify families within FH where there is such a family group. The fact that the photo is in colour and its quality suggest to me that the image was taken circa 1970 on, and the ages put parents as being similar ages, and between 45ish and 55ish. This would limit the search to those born say 1920 on to give a bit of leeway. The youngest son looks to be about 10, so probably suggesting there are 4 children max.

Could a query return me families with 4 children where one parent was born post 1920? If so could someone give me some hints, so I could work out the query myself. I could then consider if any are suitable matches.

Thanks

I'm not a great user of queries but I would be inclined to take a copy of the query "Miscellaneous / Count of Children (per Family)" - you could then add the name / age (or Birth year?), together with Conditions, of one of the parents and keep modifying as needed.

Yes, the key advice is to use a Family record type of Query.

Then you can have a Row filter to test if %FAM.CHIL[4]% exists and perhaps %FAM.CHIL[5]% does not.

It is also straightforward to check %FAM.HUSB[1]>BIRT[1].DATE:YEAR% and %FAM.WIFE[1]>BIRT[1].DATE:YEAR%

Or a family of 2 parents and 2 children plus visiting cousins (or variations)?

Is there anyway from the photo that you can deduce any variation in "closeness"?

To expand on what Mike says, you want to:
  • add families where %FAM.~SPOU[1]>BIRT.DATE% was later than 1919
  • add families where %FAM.~SPOU[2]>BIRT.DATE% was later than 1919
  • exclude families unless =ChildCount() is greater than 3
I've modified the last filter to account for larger families where one or more children died before the photograph was taken.

Wow that's created some interest. Thanks to everyone. I'm away to play with the suggestions, and I'll update in a few hours.

Thanks again

Thanks, worked perfectly, ended up with 18 families of whom 7 were possibles.

Now of to talk to family members on those sides.

Thanks again.
