* Unexpected conflicted copy in OneDrive

Is anyone else seeing similar behaviour?

I am frequently unable to open a project (not always the same project) because the .ged file has been renamed as a conflicted copy by OneDrive. (Renaming the ged file to what it should be is the easy fix, but I'd like to avoid it happening).

I am confident that the relevant file(s) have not been opened on any other PC in the last several months, and I have not had two copies of the file(s) open on my PC at the same time.

This started a month or so ago, and I can't correlate it with any other changes in the environment. I have not noticed it with any other files.

No problem here. I have FH on desktop and on laptop using a OneDrive link. Like you my second copy has not been accessed for approx 3 weeks, but the desktop has accessed it probably every day in that period, No problems at all.

I'm assuming you haven't got a similar service running at the same time looking at the same folders (e.g. Dropbox)?

No problem here with latest updated Windows 10 and OneDrive Build 22.186.0904.0001 (64-bit).
All my Projects are on OneDrive with at least one accessed most days. They are only occasionally accessed on my laptop.

In the early days of Onedrive, syncing was often a problem, and even now compounded by not having a 1 way sync, hence I do a 1 way sync of my masters to a duplicate folder and sync that with Onedrive, so that if anything goes wrong, my "master" does not get overwritten. I imagine that might not be very helpful if you are working on different PCs though.

Syncing programs are great when they work, but when they don't, (they can get confused), they are a nightmare.

So, all I would suggest is that you delete the files in question (copy away first) from everywhere and then reinstate them, including any trash folders. If that does not work, more drastic measures may need to be taken, like reinstalling Onedrive and reupload/downloading the files.

Then again it might be something simple like some automated procedure changing dates/attributes. Have you compared attributes and checksums?

If the renames have the addition of something like (1), that would suggest a copy operation.

I have noticed when it looks like OneDrive cannot decide which version is the latest, or may have been updated more than once. Onedrive asks me to resolve it. But you think there have been no changes to the files.

As an aside:
I don't know if it is related, but I had an annoyance (more than an annoyance really), whereby if I was in say MSWord on my laptop, I would click on a dropdown/dropup list from the taskbar to choose the file I wanted, only to later discover I had edited the online version. This might have been because the online was a later version, but for me I always keep my "master" on my laptop. There are various settings to help avoid this e.g.

It all depends how you work and with who.

No -- DropBox and GoggleThinggy not installed.

That would be an awful lot of files -- it seems totally random, except it's only affecting ged files.

There isn't anything to compare them with -- there aren't two copies of the same file, one renamed as a conflicted copy; there's only the renamed conflicted copy, which is why this is so odd.

We used to get this at work when sharing files, and two of us had the same file set to always keep on local machine. Stopping doing this mostly solved the issue as I recall (was a couple of years ago now).

I'm using one-drive, windows 11 and FH7 all fully up-to-date. I haven't experienced that issue so far. I have a fast connection. I have autosave to every 5 mins. And I have it set to keep on this machine.

That's what I was expecting, but there aren't two copies, just the renamed one.

Could the machine be going to sleep during a sync.
