Ages of an entire family at a given date

Hi,
so, as we get further back in time, families were often quite large (though not all children lived to grow up). I'm wondering how to do a query to work out what ages, given known or calculated birth dates/years, all the people in a family would be on a particular date, of those who are known to be alive on that date.

For example, I've got a possible match in an 1821 census which gives ages by range (5-10, 10-15, for example), of 8 people. If I could get their ages at this date for all of them it'd make it easy to see if this is possible match.

Yes, I know I can work them out individually, but this problem's intrigued me to find if it could be done :)

Many thanks

Take a look at the Estimated Alive At standard query. Is that close to what you want?

It does display all individuals that meet its criteria. You would need to add another row filter at the beginning to exclude people who aren't in a Named List (see the Named List Members standard query but remember to 'Exclude Unless' rather than 'Include If.'

Another approach (instead of a Named List) would be to look at the Immediate Family standard query and use its row criteria but with an Exclude unless.

Hi Helen,
both great ideas :). I did find Estimated Alive At, thanks for telling me how to filter it. I've never looked at the Immediate Family queries, they'll come in handy.
Many thanks :)
