Unlink but not delete a fact

Firstly I apologise if this is covered already, but I have not found an answer in the forums.
Since transferring files from version 4 to version 7 I have found that some unwanted 'facts' have appeared in an individual's record. For example, the death of a sibling which occurred even before the individual was born. None of the buttons or further options would seem to enable me to simply unlink the unwanted fact from that specific record whilst retaining it elsewhere. I can only find the option to delete the fact altogether on a right-click - obviously not what I want to do.
Many thanks. I am sure there is a simple answer

What you are seeing are Timeline facts as per
https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help ... ialog.html which describes how to control which if any are shown.

Helen, unfortunately the link in your post doesn't work - it produces "Nothing was found at this location."
Christine, if you click the cog-wheel icon in the toolbar of the Facts tab and then select Timeline facts from the drop-down menu this will open the Select Timeline facts window. Click the Help button in that window to get to the relevant page in the FH Help files.

Christine, welcome to the FHUG.
FH V7 shows more 'facts' in the
Facts tab than FH V4.
They include 'facts' from not just the current Individual record (blue bullet), but also the Family records (red bullet as in FH V4), optionally close relative's records Timeline Facts (grey bullets), and Fact Witnesses (blue arrow).
See the FH Help page
https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help ... tsets.html.
You will discover many new features in FH V7, so spend some time looking around and studying the Help and the FHUG
Knowledge Base.
( P.S. I just fixed the broken link as in the Reason: comment. )

Mike, thanks for fixing the broken link. It works for me now.

Mike, what exactly did you change as the original link worked for me?

Hmm. Correct me if I'm wrong but while I can see how to inhibit the display of Timeline facts after an individual's death (or various points after), I can't see a method how to inhibit the display before someone's birth. Not sure about the benefits because I don't normally have sibling deaths (say) showing as Timeline facts, but the absent symmetry niggles me...

Adrian, I recall a discussion years ago about whether there needed to be a before Birth Cut Off Date.
The majority decision I think was that it was not popular.
Helen, the original link in your posting was something like
https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help ... cttimeline
It had the righthand end missing. It did not work for Lorna and did not work for me.
It produced the message "Nothing was found at this location. Try searching, or check out the links below."

Thanks - perhaps more a case of it was thought not particularly necessary, rather than "We
shouldn't be able to cut-off before birth..."??
Certainly, on the timeline displays I normally show, I don't have the need for one - but I just tried showing deaths of siblings and that looked quite interesting, because it showed where a child's household might be affected by the death of their sibling - but then it came with a PITA that you got deaths before the principal's birth.
I am, of course, quite likely to have found it unnecessary back then and a jolly good idea today!

That's very odd, because I tested it after posting. Maybe because I was working on my phone and the browser behaves differently there?

But seeing deaths before the principal's birth can be useful when looking at families that follow a naming convention - as it might explain the second use of a name. E.g. John b 1902 a year after the death of John 1899-1901?
Seeing the father's death before the principal's birth can also be useful.

That's true - although I'd probably pick up all that from the diagram for the family that I'm 99% certain to have open at this point. Deaths of siblings during the principal's life aren't quite as obvious from a chart, but are easily spotted if woven in with events during the principal's life.

I would really like an option for a cut-off date for the timeline - before the birth date of the person.
I assume that since an option is cut-off date after death, it wouldn't be very hard to create a cut-off before birth.
If a child is the youngest of 10 siblings, and you identify sibling births and deaths, you get a lot of lines of data that look a bit strange (Age -18)
Thanks, Lind

Is the problem actually misnaming the column?
It's not "Age of Individual" but "YoB+/-"?
If you have timeline facts "on", it might be useful if the Facts tab opened with YoB=0 scrolled to the top?
It's not a huge issue to me - I find timeline facts a useful means of clicking through to relatives so I always have it on.

The columns are not misnamed. The event happened 18 years before the subject's birth. That is obvious.
I just thought that if you can have a cut-off date of death, you could have a cut-off date of birth, so the events being displayed occur only during the subject's lifetime.
A matter of preference.
Linda

Thanks everyone for your replies, especially Lorna
This method works well BUT surely means I would have to do this procedure for every individual whose 'facts' list include these unwanted events. Is this really so? I have hundreds of individuals on file. I don't remember having this problem with version 4

No you don't need to do it for every individual. Whatever settings you choose in the Select Timeline Facts window will apply to all individuals.
You can also switch between displaying and hiding your chosen timeline facts by clicking the icon just to the left of the cog wheel icon (it looks like a calendar with a plus sign over it). So if you find the facts tab is too cluttered you can keep the timeline facts hidden most of the time but just flick them on and off when you need to. Again, this will apply to all individuals.
