Editing in the records window

I am currently working through my tree, finding as many missing census entries as I can.
I have added a custom attribute to the individual record to indicate when an individual has all of their relevant census entries (or I have at least searched and given up!). This is a simple attribute that is either 'Yes' or no data.
I know there are various reports that produce a list of census entries, but I want a flag I can set on the diagram view, which is where I usually work from.
At the moment I have this information in a spreadsheet, linked to the Record ID. I have added a column to the Individuals view of the Records Window to show this attribute.
What I want to do is list all the individuals by record ID, then be able to go down the new column inserting Yes where relevant. I don't mind doing this manually, but there doesn't seem to be a way to this.
I don't know if this is even possible, or maybe there is another way round it, perhaps importing from the spreadsheet.

To do it manually in the records window, one way is to right-click on the name in the 'Individual records column' and then Set Flag.

Do you particularly want to use the custom attribute as well as a flag? Do you need both?
As Helen has said, you can add a flag to each individual via the Records window but that won’t add the custom attribute. You could simply replace the ‘attribute’ column in the Records window with a column for your flag.
To set a flag on multiple individuals, add them to a Named List and then use Tools > Named Lists and Record Flags, select the Named List and enter the name of the flag. Then use option 1, Set the flag on all Individual record members of the list.

Maybe Peter is using the term "a flag I can set on the diagram view" to mean "an Icon in a Diagram".
In my experience, users often interchange the terms Flag and Icon.
However, as the others have said, it would be easier to use a Record Flag instead of a custom Attribute Fact.
A Record Flag is easier to add to Individual records that setting an Attribute value to Yes.
A Record Flag can easily trigger an Icon on a Diagram by adding a Condition to the Diagram > Options > Boxes tab.

Thanks for the replies.
Sorry for the confusion. I used the word flag in general terms (e.g. to flag something up), not as the specific item in FH.
This is the view on the diagram:-
I hadn't considered using a Flag; that actually makes more sense. I will investigate that option further.
Thanks
Pete

Pete,
I use icons on my diagrams that look like this:

- tree flags.jpg (26.44 KiB) Viewed 816 times
I went to Diagram>Options...>Boxes and added an expression for each UK Census year 1841-1921 + the 1939 register
Here's the 1841 expression

- Flag expression.jpg (38.06 KiB) Viewed 816 times
With the expression highlighted, you can then click 'Edit Features...' and add an icon of your choice or one built in to FH

If you decide on using a flag, you can simplify its use by having it shown on the property box, as shown in attached Image, there you can set/reset the flag with a click of the mouse button.

You can see I have two flags in my property box
1939 Missing and
Missing Baptism, and I can change which flags to show by editing the property box
Flags item.
See FHUG Knowledge Base
Record Flags that explains how to add Flags to the Property Box.

That is a great idea, thanks Neil40.
I've implemented it in my FH and it works great, except.....
As it picks up a census entry attached to the individual record, it doesn't allow for the cases where I have looked for a census return and failed to find it, however coupled with my custom Flag it is perfect.
@ Gowermick, I didn't know about placing a check box for a Flag on the property box, saves quite a bit of time when entering a large family! Thanks very much.

Peter, if you explain the distinguishing features of valid Census Events versus failed Census Events then the Box Condition Expressions can probably be modified to exclude the Census icon or show a different (perhaps red) icon for the failure cases.
