Upgrade from v3 to v6

Post by ikas » 30 Aug 2022 13:03

I originally purchased FH v3 on CD which I still have with key. I think, but not certain, that I purchased upgrades for each new version. I might have repurchased v6 and I have just forgotten.

My tablet died last week. It did not have a cd reader but I had v6 FH installed on it. Now replaced with a new tablet which does not have a cd reader either. I cannot now remember how I managed to install v6 on my old tablet. Was it possible to upgrade from v5 to v6 by downloading updates on-line? I can't see such an update now.

Will I have to repurchase or is there another route. The data is on a backup disc.

You'll need to find your license from somewhere. FH should be able to assist if you can't find it.

You don't need to install all versions,
You just need to install version 6, but will need your v5 and V6 license details

How can I reinstall an upgrade version? goes through your route for reinstalling.

As Neil said, you may need to contact CP via their Support Centre if you need their help to find your V5 licence.

Those archive files are only free upgrades to an existing installed version.
They cannot be used to install purchased upgrades from one version to the next version.
It is essential to use the original purchased installation media (either CD or download) except for FH V7.

Since your tablet had no CD reader, you probably purchased an upgrade download from CP.
If you don't have the download installation file nor can recall your FH V5 licence and FH V6 licence then only CP can help.
It will help them if you can recall the Email address you used to perform the purchases.

Thanks to all for your help. The link from cole valley girl describes the process I must have used to install v6 on my old tablet. Fortunately my records of reg keys are better than my memory so I will follow the process again. Many thanks

Good to see you have a solution. Another thing people could try in the same situation is to buy an external CD drive that connects to the PC or laptop via USB. I had to do that when I still needed to access the National Burial Index directly instead of via FMP, as you had to physically put the CD in to make it work. The drive wasn't particularly expensive and I've also used in since in situations like this (ie when easier to find CD than licence key).
