Minus ages in fact list

Post by Rosie » 30 Aug 2022 05:30

I'm very new to Family Historian, still using the trial - I have added a direct ancestor, then her parents, then gone and researched for other children with the same parents. Now I have eight children, which were input in a random order (as I found them).

I did the reorder out of sequence data from the tools menu to sort the children in birth order.

Now I have some children with facts of their siblings listed prior to their birth.
Example: Emma Jane was born in November 1881. Her fact listing shows her brother's death in November 1874 seven years prior to her birth. There are also two more sibling deaths showing in the list before she's born. Can I remove that information, without deleting people and starting over? Do I need to be more careful to add people in the correct birth order?

I'm working back by adding the ancestor, then their parents; and then searching for other siblings, parent marriages when one spouse dies, etc.

I'd attach a screenshot but can't work out how to post one.

What you are seeing are called Timeline Facts -- events for close relatives -- have a grey bullet and shaded text in the Property Box Facts tab.

You can toggle their display in and off using the Show Timeline Facts Button , which is accessed from the toolbar at the bottom of the Facts tab.

You can configure which if any to display using the Select Timeline Facts dialog which is accessed via the Cog icon under at the bottom of the Facts tab.

With reference to children being out of sequence, when you add a new child, you can position them correctly by using the up/down arrows on toolbar. For an existing child, just highlight it in the parents focus window, and then use up/down arrows.

Likewise with spouses, to get them in chronological order. In the individuals property box, there are separate tabs for each spouse, the order shown is how they appear in the focus window. You can move them to correct order by using the little left/right arrows at top of property box, (to the right of the spouse tabs).

Welcome to the FHUG Rosie.

For sorting/ordering techniques see the FHUG Knowledge Base advice on Sorting Children, Spouses & Facts into Date Order that mentions the suggestions given below and others.

Your topic subject mentions 'minus ages' which I guess you are seeing next to Timeline Facts. Yes, for any Facts prior to the Birth of the current person their negative age will be shown in brackets. So it is saying that Fact happened say 5 years before they were born.
