Order of 'existing sources'

Is there a way to get the list of sources when I click "Cite existing source" to put the most recently used at the top? Currently my list seems to be ordered by the number of citations - greatest first. I have found that the 'Show recent' button is not terribly useful - it often shows nothing, even during a session of entering various citations. Have I misunderstood its purpose perhaps? It's not terribly important, but it would save having to type e.g. 'prob..' to find the Probate Indexes citation, etc. (although that's an easy one!)

The best option might be to sort the source list by Updated, but that only helps if you are a splitter and have created the source recently. For my frequently used lumped sources, such as GRO Indexes, I memorise the number, so bring it up that way.

Whatever the last sort order is used for sources in the Records Window, is the order they will be presented to the user when adding an existing source.

Also, remember each source record is given an ID when created, so the most recent will have the highest ID, so sorting by ID in descending order, will place the most recently created at the top.

I adjust the name of common sources, so when sorted alphabetically, they appear at the top. If a source has an underscore or two added to the front of the title, when sorted, will appear at the top. E.g. __ Marriage cert, or __Birth cert

Ruth, could you explain why you need the most recently used at the top? (There may be a better method)
What exactly do you mean by 'recently used'?
Do you mean most recently cited?
If you have just added a Citation and want the same Citation added to other items then use Copy and Paste Citation.

Thanks, I hadn't realised that - that is well worth knowing. I had tried to sort in the 'Cite existing source' list/window, to no avail.

That's quite a useful idea. There are a few that I tend to use regularly.

GRO Indexes is the only one I really know - 7! It is some others that I use less frequently, but that I might go through quite a number of citations in a session that prove a bit trickier. I do tend to use AS for my more 'important' sources.

Thanks for the help and ideas.

If I'm going through something, say GRO indexes, and want to cite an entry, it is useful not to have to type GRO every time (although for this example, I do know the record id number).

'Recently used' - I should have said 'Show recent' - the round button at the top of the 'Cite existing source' window. Sometimes this does show a couple of sources, other times not - I haven't quite worked out the ins and outs of this!

I had tried to sort in the 'Cite existing source' list/window, to no avail.
This should sort in the same way as the Records Window, by clicking on the relevant column heading (or right-click for ascending/descending option). If you are a lumper that frequently uses a limited number of sources, you could also bookmark them to get just those sources showing in the list.
