Adding Flags to Main Tab in Property Box

I heard this was possible, and have read the Knowledge base item and searched this 2 different days. I must be slow, but i can't seem to find Flags anywhere in the Customize Property Box Pop-up.
Thanks

In the Customize Property Box window, first make sure the Main tab is selected at the top left.
Next, untick Show most commonly-used items only at the bottom left.
Now select <Custom Item> in the list of Available items, and click > in the centre to add the new item.
Click OK for the Main area for Individual.
Enter an Item Name for the flag, then click Part 1.
Enter a Label (this is what will appear in the Main tab of the Property Box).
To find the Data reference, click the <<Select button and then click + beside Flags and choose your flag, then OK.
Click OK again at top right.
The Flag will now be in the list of selected items. Its position in the main tab can be adjusted using the up/down arrows.
The box in the main tab can be ticked/unticked to add/remove the flag.

There is a shortcut that may be easier.
In the Customize Property Box dialogue, choose Living & Private on left and add to items on right.
That adds the standard Living Flag and Private Flag to the Main tab.
Click View/Edit... and change the Item Name, the Labels, and Data References to match your Flags.

Thank you both so much for your Replies. I succeeded in getting 2 Flags on a first row, and 2 Flags on a second row. I Have tried playing around with the Alignment Groups, but even though there is a ton of room, I can't seem to get more than 2 flags on a row. I am guessing this is something that can't be changed.
thanks

That is correct. Only two Items/Parts are allowed per row.

Thanks,

Lorna's description is a bit misleading.
Item Name: is purely a descriptive name for the customization item and only appears in those dialogues.
The Part 1 Label: and Part 2 Label: should be the same as the names of the two Record Flags because it appears in the Property Box tab.
I thought the Help for the Edit Item dialogue did give a reasonable example and a good explanation of each field.

Thanks, Mike - this is what the Help says, which is why I was confused. As I mentioned, examples are always helpful...My screencap just says Item Name, which again, for me means nothing without an example. I know I can undo if I make an error, but I'd rather do it correctly in the first place.

I would just call the item 'Twin', or perhaps 'Twin flag'. The important one is the Label, as that appears in the Property box. If you look at other items which can be displayed on the Main tab you will see, for example,
Item name Baptism, Label Bap:
Item name Burial, Label Buried:
Item name Adoption, label Adopted:
In these cases the Item name is created automatically and is the name of the Fact, but as Flags are not facts you can get creative with the item name if you want to!

Thanks for the clarification, Lorna...I kinda figured, but am still far from being a super-user of FH...baby steps!

Look at the existing Available Item called Living & Private for the Living Record Flag and Private Record Flag.
The Item Name: describes the two flags on the row (although the two items don't both have to be flags).
The Label: names mimic the names of the two Record Flags.
So in your case, the Part 1 Label: would be Twin if that is the name of your Record Flag.
The Part 2 Label: would be another Record Flag.
The Item Name: could be Twin & <another>.

I have a related, but slightly difference question. When I did my import from TMG I had a flag called "CW Service," indicating that the person had served in military in the United States Civil War. This tag was imported, as I saw at the time. I can not find it now. I would like to have the "check box" for this flag to appear along with the Living and Private check boxes that I now have on the Main tab. I've search for ways to do this, and can't figure it out. It's probably simple, but I need some guidance. Thanks for any help you can give me. -- Carl

Carl, I suspect the TMG 'flag' is very different from a 'Record Flag' which is a non-standard GEDCOM extension unique to FH.
So you need to discover how CW Service has been imported into FH and what values it can take.
It could be a custom Fact or maybe an Uncategorised Data Field (UDF).
Start by using Tools > Uncategorised Data > Find Uncategorised Data... or run the UDF List plugin that gives better details.
If that lists CW Service then post the details here so we can explain how it might be used or converted.
Otherwise, use Tools > Fact Types... and tick Show Hidden to see if it listed as a custom Fact.
Again if you find it then post the details here so we can explain the options.

Mike,
I ran the UDF plugin which reported "no UDFs found." I then looked for hidden Fact Types, however, CW Service was not listed. I know that somewhere this flag was imported, because I saw it right after the import, and one other time when I was fiddling around I saw it, but I can't seem to remember how to get back to it. Where else might it be hiding? Thanks for any further help you can give me.

You could try using Edit > Find and search for CW Service. I'm not sure if that will search absolutely everywhere, though.
Is it possible that you have mis-remembered the name of the flag/tag/fact?

The mystery deepens
As a longshot try
Edit > Record Flags... to see if it is listed there.
Try the
Search and Replace plugin with
Search Scope set to
All Records & Events/Attributes.
In
Basic Filters just tick
All other Text fields as it is unlikely to be anywhere else.
Set
Search Criteria to Search for
CW Service in
Plain Text Mode with
Case Insensitive.
Click
Search ONLY ~ does that find anything? If not then try variants of
CW Service.
Finally,
carefully open the Project GEDCOM file in a plain text editor such as Notepad and try to Find CW Service.
Do you still have the TMG Project? Can you open it in TMG and investigate where CW Service applies?
Tell us whatever you find.

I tried Lorna's suggestion and found the attached information, which seems to say that "CW Service" is already designated as a Flag. So, how can I find it to place it as checkbox?
By the way, when I try to access >Edit>Record Flags, Record Flags is greyed out and can't be accessed.

Refer back to the second post in this thread, in which I replied to the OP's question.
Specifically, the line which says "To find the Data reference, click the <<Select button and then click + beside Flags and choose your flag, then OK."
(By the way, to use Edit > Record Flags you have to first select an individual. )

Lorna,
I tried to follow your instructions, but I'm getting lost. I got to the point that I created a new Tab in the Customize Property Box thinking I could then connect with my CW Service Flag, but I don't see how to do the next step. Maybe I've totally gone in the wrong direction. Further guidance appreciated.

You don't appear to have followed instruction (2) - "Untick 'Show most commonly-used items only'", which is underneath the list of available items.

Actually, I did that but posted a screenshot with it checked. Here's a screenshot with it unchecked, and with the area in view where CW Service should be, but it's not.

In V6 I usually access such things through the <Custom Item> (for advanced users) and select the relevant flags:

Carl, you have not followed the very first instruction to use the
Main tab. Do NOT create a custom tab.
Then you will be able to select
<Custom Item> in the list of
Available Items.
Please work through the instructions carefully step by step.
Do not select anything that is not as instructed.
See the same instructions at
viewtopic.php?f=32&t=20795&p=127862#p126640
Also, see FHUG Knowledge Base
Record Flags Displaying Record Flags in the Property Box that says the same.

Carl, you can't expect to see the flag in the screenshot you posted because you have not yet carried out step 3.
Now select <Custom Item> in the list of Available items, and click > in the centre to add the new item.
The <Custom Item> is at the top of the list on the left hand side. (You may need to scroll up to see it).
There are then three more steps before you get to the point where you select the flag.
As Mike says, you don't need to create a separate tab for CW Service. The instructions are for putting a tick box for a flag on the main tab of the Property Box, which is where most people would want it for easy visibility. However if for some reason you particularly want a separate tab for the CW Service flag the same instructions will still work.
