Moving from old Win 10 PC to new Win 11

Post by BakerJL75 »

I am moving from an old Win 10 computer to a new Win 11 one. I know to use either BACKUP AND RESTORE FAMILY HISTORIAN SETTINGS VIA WINDOWS or Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings. I know people are running on computers they upgraded to Win 11, but didn't know if anyone did it as a new installation. I'm asking since it writes to the registry and wanted to double check they still worked ok with Win 11.

Thanks,
Jackie

Hi Jackie

I upgraded my PC to Win11 with FH already installed, however, I replaced my laptop and did the Win11 migration before installing FH and restoring settings etc using Mike Tate's plugin.
I've had no issues

Just to corroborate that and explain why all is OK.

The Windows Registry entries are the ones that FH uses.
FH uses the same ones on every variant of Windows from 7 through to 11.
The plugin similarly uses those same entries.

Thanks everyone. I'll proceed a bit later in the day. Turns out my financial software (older) didn't like Win 11 so I'm deciding on a new one. Unfortunately that has to come first.
Thanks,
Jackie

Have you tried installing/running your financial software in Windows 10 compatibility mode?
