Earlier today I was reading a review of FH7 in the March 2021 issue of Who do you think you are magazine - at the bottom was a list of Pros and Cons. The final bullet point on the Pro side says: "Web Clipper makes it possible to import facts from most websites." I'd never heard of this and can't find anything in the help file about it. Am now wondering if this was an editing error or if I'm just not able to find this tool.

I'm guessing you are well aware of web clipper by now, I use the inbuilt web browser a lot to grab media and text, I believe this is what is referred to as Web Clipper.

I have a tutorial paced media video in the making but you can see the drag and drop from web in my short below.

I watched your video and tried it myself, however, keep getting an error message ... I checked the image itself and it's definitely a .jpg.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Yes, I get the same error with the images on that page, but some other website images work OK for both .jpg and .gif files.
If the images are downloaded to your PC they then import OK

Maybe the problem needs to be reported to CP with that specific website so they can check those images.

I had that error pop up on a quite a number of images on different sites; so much so that I decided using web clipper was more effort than it was worth. I couldn't see any sort of pattern of why they were failing, I surmised it was something to do with how the image was stored on the server, or thumbnailed, or referenced in the HTML.

Thanks for affirming it's not just me...I will try some other websites and see what happens. Will report to CP.

Many web sites try to protect images from being copied.
This is often the reason that many web clipping tools including FH can fall foul of.

In that case the error message needs to be more informative.
Saying the file is an "Unrecognised image type" when it is a JPG does not help the user.

I used Windows Snipping Tool direct from my browser and had no problem. Perhaps a bit of a pain to use additional software but I often find I have to, just reduce the image size to something more useable. It suggests to me the problem is more complicated than just 'protection' ?

I believe Windows Snip / Snipping Tool is just taking a screenshot though, not getting the original file. In fact, screen shots/snipping is the recognised way of avoiding file protection / right click protection, etc.

I do use it myself for newspaper articles on FindMyPast, which annoyingly have a very low download resolution, so it certainly has its uses.

In the case of Hilborough church, the images are on Flickr and are linked from the Norfolk Churches website. It could be that the FH clipper depends upon the image being on the actual website.

Brian, that may be so, but the error message says "Unrecognised image type" which does not explain the problem is to do with being linked to another website.

Furthermore, even the Churches of Norfolk logo has the same problem and its URL is "../bawdeswell/norfolkbadge.jpg" which is the same website and not linked anywhere!

Yes I think you are right, it is a screenshot.
I tried another way, again Windows, right click and Copy Image, then Pasted into P'shop. This is the result.

Thanks, everyone - I'm well-versed in other ways to clip (I use Snag-it), but after seeing the video about using the web clipper, I thought it was cool to try, then confused when it didn't seem to work. Now I understand it's not perfect rather than me doing something wrong.
