* Placement of Diagrams in Books
Placement of Diagrams in Books
I am making a FH Book using a combination of Reports and saved Diagrams. When I create and save the Diagrams, they are sized and placed on the page. When I add each saved Diagram to the Book, FH opens a window showing the Diagram over (usually) 4 pages (even very small diagrams). I use the Move command, move it to the correct position on the page. However, on viewing the Book, it has not moved the Diagram. I am at a loss as to how to have my Diagrams properly show in the Book. Thanks for any assistance/suggestions!

Re: Placement of Diagrams in Books
Welcome to the FHUG.
After Publish > Books & Booklets... and selecting your book you choose Edit...
Then select a Diagram and click Edit to open the Select Chart Pages dialogue shown below.
Select Position on Page so you can drag the tree around on the pages.
On the right adjust the Scale as required.
Click Help for advice about the options.
Click OK to commit the changes then use Refresh Book... and select Full Rebuild to ensure changes are incorporated.

Thanks so much, obviously I didn't realize that the Full Rebuild was the critical, missing step.
Re: Placement of Diagrams in Books
A quick follow-up question - is it possible to rotate charts? For example, by 90 degrees? I couldn't find any means to do it, but I'm not familiar with a lot of the Publishing tools. Thanks.

Re: Placement of Diagrams in Books
Adrian, no, there appears to be no direct way of rotating diagrams in Books, but there are some workarounds.
1) One option is to change the Orientation of the Diagram Options from Top-down to Left-right and adjust box Dimensions.
That will often fit the Diagram into a smaller space when oriented in a Portrait A4 page.
e.g. A diagram I chose needed to be 22% Scale in Top-down orientation to fit into one page, whereas in Left-right orientation it could be increased to 30% Scale.
2) Use the Charts command to display the Diagram and use Diagram > Save Diagram As > JPEG File (.jpg) or PNG File (.png).
You may have to increase the Scale to much greater than 100% to get a high-resolution quality image.
Then use an image editor to adjust the size and rotation of that image.
In the Book editor, insert a Blank Pages (placeholder) and Save Book As > Word-Processor Document (RTF).
In a word processor, insert the edited & rotated diagram image into the Blank Page.
3) Use the Charts command to display, save, and edit the Diagram JPG/PNG image as above.
Then use the Creating a Book ~ Book Free Page Content technique to insert the rotated diagram image into a Saved Chart and insert that Saved Chart into the Book.

Re: Placement of Diagrams in Books
Thank you Mike. I will probably use option (3). I had noticed option (1) top-down vs. left-right, etc., but I preferred a top-down chart rotated, purely as a style choice. Thanks for explaining the options.
