Hi, I have a FH file with about 10000+ people in it.
I want to create a version of the project that just includes Ancestors and 2 generations of their decendants. (I want the direct ancestors, their siblings, and the children/spouses of their children)
I'm assuming that the "Split Tree Helper" is what I want to use. The closest query I found was a custom that does the ancestor plus 1 generation (https://fhug.org.uk/kb/download/ancesto ... hildren-3/). Does someone already have a query I could use ?
Oh... one more question: Once I've 'thinned the herd', is there a query or what is the best way to delete the unused places? (I have more places it seems than people in this file: over 14500!)

Use that Query and on its cog Query Menu use Save As Custom Query... and change its name to end in 2 gen
In that new Query on its Rows tab, change the 2nd filter to use Max generations: 2 and click the Update button.
It would be wise to correct the General tab Description.
To delete records in general and Place records in particular see FHUG Knowledge Base Delete One or Many Records.
I suspect you have been changing Place names in the Place fields instead of the Place records themselves or using the Tools > Work With Data > Places dialogue.

Thanks that worked perfect for slimming down the project.
I've read the directions for the places, named list and have just one question. My brain is working slow today so I just want to make sure I don't mess it up. A place is not used in the project if it shows as having 0 links correct? I have them ready to delete (about 6000 of them) but just want to double check

Yes, any record that has 0 Links, etc, is not used anywhere.
