* Custom Template Collections

I now finally have a wonderfully working database after spending a little over a year now doing various imports from TMG and learning the in an outs of the program. However, I did notice one thing that bugs me a little: I have two custom template collections one called "Private (TMG Import)" and another called simply "Private". The first collection is a set of templates that came over from TMG that I have decided to just put in its own collection and never use again going forward. They were simply used to ease the transition over to templates. The second collection are all my new FH7 specific templates. All these templates work wonderfully. But as I continued my research I came to a point where I had to add a few more templates; but when I go to the template collections I notice I still only have "Essentials" and "Advanced". The "Private (TMG Import)" and "Private" collections do not show up. I think I might have done something wrong during the cleanup after the TMG Import. What I did is that I imported templates from the "Advanced" and "Essentials" collections and then changed their names, and collection name to reflect their use. I suspect I should have created new collections first. Is there any way to fix this now? I.e. can I go and add these new collections now? I mean the templates are there so it's not a big deal per se, but I just want to have a completely clean dataset going forward. Any help appreciated!

Ken, when dealing with this kind of troubleshooting, it is extremely helpful and much quicker to reach a resolution if you can state specifically what commands you are using &/or provide screenshots of what you can or can't see.
e.g.
Instead of saying "The "Private (TMG Import)" and "Private" collections do not show up." tell us what command you used to try and show those collections.
Are you looking in the Records Window on its Source Templates tab, or using Tools > Source Template Definitions...?

I assume you have not migrated to a new PC.

Thank you Mike, you're right. I'm going to try and support my question with some screenshots below. When I imported my data from TMG I put all the templates from that import into its own template collection called "<MyName> TMG" and then I added another template collection for new data input after the TMG import. This template collection I called "<MyName>". See screenshot 1 below (I have blacked out part of the template collection name because it contains a private name so I used <MyName> as a placeholder here).

If I then go to Tools->Source Template Definitions and click on the "Collections" button, I'd expect to see those two collections there, but I don't. See screenshots 2 and 3.

The problem with that is that now that I need to add a few new templates, I get no option to add into those collections when I click "New" on the Source Template Definitions dialog box. Screenshot 4.

So for whatever reasons all my templates even though they are listed in screenshot 1 under the "Collections" column with the collection name I expect, FH7 seems to have no record of it's existence in the "Source Template Definitions" and therefore will not let me add new templates into it.

Is there a way to fix this? I.e. can I add new template collections and link the templates I have already to those collections so I can add to them?

I hope that clarifies what I am asking.

You are missing the difference between Source Template Definitions and Source Templates. Source Templates are specific to your Project as they were imported from TMG they will not exist in Source Template Definitions.

Use the Create Source Template Definitions plugin from the Plugin Store to create definitions from templates that you have either created directly in FH or imported from another product.

Thank you both! I just thought it was strange that I clearly have source templates from 4 source template collections in my project (Essentials, Advanced, Private, and Private (TMG)), yet only 2 of these (Essentials and Advanced) show up in the list of collections in screenshot 3. Not a deal breaker per se, but the way this is it is it's impossible for me to export my collections to use in other project, say.

Ken, have you missed the point about Mark's posting?
Download and run the plugin he mentions from the Plugin Store.
That allows your Source Template collections <MyName> and <MyName> TMG that are local to your Project to be migrated to the Source Template Definition collections that are global.
Then you can import those global Source Template Definition collections into any Project by using the Tools > Source Template Definitions > Add To Project button.

Yes, I totally misunderstood the use case for Mark's plugin. I downloaded and ran it and the behavior was exactly what I was looking for. I now have 4 template collections, with my own two included as expected.
