Viewing media files in Sources

Post by dichorionic » 04 Apr 2022 21:13

Hi,

I'm looking for advice or help in viewing my media files. I'm using v.7.0.11 on Windows 10 and in recent months have been uploading media files, where appropriate, to Sources. The file appears as a thumbnail and both Source and Media file are saved. However, when I later view the Source I can no longer see the media file. The file still exists and if I View > Record Links the correct record(s) is identified. What am I doing wrong and why cannot I see the media file?

Many thanks,
Peter

Peter, exactly where and how are you looking at Source records? Are the Media image files or other file types?
When you upload the Media files do you copy into the Project's Media folder or choose Link only?
Use Tools > External File Links... to check for broken file links.
Screenshots of what you can (or cannot) see might help us understand.

Open the Records Window and then its Sources tab, where the Pics etc column counts linked Media.
Open any Source record with Pics etc and its Media tab will show the Media.
OR
From the Facts tab of an Individual Property Box, select any Fact with a media icon in the More column.
Click the Show Media button below with the same icon, and in the popup window ensure both Include Source Record Media and Include Citation Media are ticked, then the Media are shown.

Alternatively, from the Records Window in its Media tab, select a Media record with Links column > 0.
View > Record Links... is one option. The Where Used Record Links plugin gives more details.
Opening the indicated Source record and its Media tab should show the Media.

Mike,

Thank you for your detailed response. I am reassured to say that there were no unlinked files. Furthermore, using the two optiuons you describe I was able to show the media images. Previously, there were plenty of occasions when I clicked on a Source and then its media tab nothing appeared. I suspect I was doing something incorrect as your suggestions work perfectly. Many thanks

Peter
