DNA tab for Property Box

I would like help in creating a DNA TAB for the Property Box
My basic idea is to have checkboxes for the testing companies listed at the top of the TAB with a 'freeform' checkbox for Other: - in case the match is for some other website.
An area for the Shared DNA with the person who is the match: Showing the cM and space to write the number followed by a space for the %. A space for the number of segments shared and the longest segment.
An area for chromosome checkboxes for matching/shared segments - numbered 1-22 to accept more than one selection.
An area for miscellaneous information: Number of shared matches with the individual; Ethnicity information; notes on surnames, Tree, (Y/N) - public or private, number of people in the tree and a freeform Note section for research notes and to-do items.
I am not opposed for other input of what can be added to the tab to be useful because I would like to have just a single DNA tab and not have multiple because something was forgotten.
Is any help possible on how to create and install it?
Thank you in advance.
John

The first thing to recognise is that what can be included in a Property Box custom tab is very restricted.
Only two items per row are allowed.
All items must exist in the person's Facts & Notes. The custom tab fields do not exist independently.
A custom tab is simply an alternative way of viewing data that is held elsewhere in the person's data.
So your initial step is to decide how & where you will record all that information in Facts & Notes for the person.
e.g.
The fields on the Main tab are just a summary of actual Names, Notes, Birth, Marriage, Death, etc, details.
The fields on the Census custom tabs recently discussed are drawn from the Census events on the Facts tab.

I am using Jane's GEDmatch fact and query, albeit with a minor amendment to the query and a modified fact note, with additional fields and an autotext template grid for the matching chromosome information, where it is available.

Whilst not being a property box tab, it seems to me that it would be capable of recording all the information you require and presenting it via a query with a few amendments to meet your specific requirements? The only difference being that the data is held in a fact assigned to the individual rather than a separate property box tab, and viewable either from the Facts tab or via a query.

John, if the GEDmatch Fact(s) hold all the details you require then that can be displayed together in a DNA custom tab, which avoids searching for the Fact(s) in the Facts tab. Does that explain what I mean by recording all the information in Facts & Notes for the person before they can be shown in a custom tab?

Forgive me if I’ve got it wrong, but the census Tab can only be used to display existing data, in read only mode, so cannot be used to create new or modify existing data.
So whilst a DNA tab may be useful for reading and displaying your DNA facts, you won’t be able to add new DNA data, as your post seems to infer..
Someone is sure to correct me if I’m mistaken

Mike, it depends on what Data References are used to define the custom tab fields.
e.g.
There are two kinds of custom Census tab:
- One kind uses INDI.CENS[n] where n=1 to 9 instance digits and allows data to be entered.
- The other uses INDI.CENS[year=yyyy] where yyyy is the census year and is read-only.
If there are multiple instances of GEDmatch facts then the former kind of Data References will be more likely than the [year=yyyy] index, so the data can be entered via the custom tab.
See FH Help
Customize Property Box > Edit Item under
Data Reference.

Mike T,
One kind uses INDI.CENS[n] where n=1 to 9 instance digits and allows data to be entered.
The other uses INDI.CENS[year=yyyy] where yyyy is the census year and is read-only.
Being able to edit the Census tab seems to me a desirable objective so could you give me some guidance please.
How is [n] the instance of the census record determined? Is [1] the oldest date, newest date, first entered, last entered or something else?
Assuming this is a workable change, would replacing [year=yyyy] with [n] loose the Year text on the row and so need replacing? If so how could that be done?
Thanks

Peter, for someone who has been using FH as long as you, I'm surprised you are unfamiliar with Data Ref instance digits.
It is the same concept for all multi-instance items:
INDI.NAME[n],
INDI.OCCU[n],
INDI.~SPOU[n], etc.
i.e.
INDI.CENS[1] is the 1st Census Event shown on the Facts tab (assuming they are held chronologically in the GEDCOM)
INDI.CENS[2] is the 2nd Census Event shown on the Facts tab (as above) or on the All tab.
et seq
INDI.CENS[9] is the 9th Census Event
All the field Data Refs such as
INDI.CENS[n].DATE and
INDI.CENS[n].PLAC and
INDI.CENS[n].AGE are the same as with
INDI.CENS[year=yyyy].
The drawback is that it's not so easy to spot missing Census years as the entries are consecutive. See
Census download.

Thanks Mike.
I rarely delve under the bonnet of FH so if I ever did know, I had forgotten !
Yes, realising there are missing years is a drawback, I will experiment.

This is my solution for recording which DNA databases each person has data.
