Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
I am trying to run the Where Used Record Links plugin, looking for where records links are used with a source. This is per the Munro example project, given in the KB of Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2, where it worked just fine. When I attempt to run it using my own project, it asks to choose the Record Type, but the Source record type is not available. Where do I go to be able to add the Source record type to it, or am I doing something else wrong? I have looked in both the KB, the help, and this forum, but cannot seem to find the information.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thank You!

Re: Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
In the Plugin Store, there is the https://pluginstore.family-historian.co ... cord-links page where you downloaded the plugin.
Below the Download button there is a link to See Help page for more information. Many plugins have that link.
That provides the Help page https://pluginstore.family-historian.co ... cord-links that explains how to use the plugin in more detail including choosing record type.
When you get the Choose Record Type window, click the drop-list to the right of the Record Type: prompt to choose any of ten record types from Individual through to Source Template. You may need to use the scroll bar on the right.

Thanks for your Reply!
Previously there were only 4 or 5 Record Types listed, but when I tried it after reading your reply, there were 7 Record Types listed and Source was one of them. I ran the plugin and it worked perfectly!
Maybe I missed the others, thinking I was at the top of the list, when I was in fact at the bottom?!? The 7 record options are:
- Individual
- Family
- Source
- Repository
- Media Place
- Place
- Source Template
Thanks for your assistance.

Re: Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
The plugin only lists the Record Types for which your Project actually has any records to investigate.
So presumably your Project has no Note, Submitter, Submission, or Research Note records.
It usually defaults to Source, which is halfway down the list, so you may need to use the scroll bar to see all the options.

Re: Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
I noticed the same thing. I would like to mention that this is a FANTASTIC plugin and I've been using it for the past several weeks to update very old data from the database I imported from RM. Some of the data is so "old" that it appears as if it may have originally been entered using the very OLD DOS version of PAF! Anyway, I still have quite a bit of additional data to cleanup to finally bring everything to my liking.tatewise wrote: ↑28 Mar 2022 10:02The plugin only lists the Record Types for which your Project actually has any records to investigate.

My one wish is that the plugin would allow me to set the default "record type." Unfortunately, the default setting for me is "Repository" and not "Source." I would REALLY like it set to "Source" (which appears directly above "Repository" and requires me to use the mouse each time (e.g., click on dropdown box, scroll up to "Source," click on "Source," then click on "OK"). I'm using this so much that it's starting to bother my mouse hand. It would make this great plugin even better if I could set the default "Record Type" to "Source" (or if the plugin could remember the last selection).
Anyway, thanks for the fantastic plugin - I'm accomplishing things so much more efficiently in FH than in any other application.

Re: Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
You can open the Records Window and its Sources tab (or any other tab), where you can select any records and the plugin then runs using that selection without prompting at all.
But you must also untick the Keep Prompt option for selecting record types.
Sorry about it not defaulting to Source record types. It should do.
That is because your Project has no Note records and there is a small fault in the code.
That fault will be fixed in the next version of the plugin.
In the meantime please create a dummy Note record that is not used for anything and Source records will be the default.

Re: Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
As the plugin is being used mainly for Sources it may be worth mentioning that in V7 you can select a Source in the Records window and then click the cog wheel icon in its Property Box toolbar and use the option to Show Source Record's Citations in Results Window. The columns in the Results set are slightly different but it is an alternative to running the plugin.

Thank you! I added a dummy note record and the rest worked like a charm. Again, thanks for the fantastic plugin!tatewise wrote: ↑04 Apr 2022 17:47You can open the Records Window and its Sources tab (or any other tab), where you can select any records and the plugin then runs using that selection without prompting at all.

Re: Where Used Record Links Plugin • Record Type
Thanks for the suggestion! For my purposes, the information in the columns generated by the plugin serve my needs better but your suggestion is also helpful. Again, thanks.LornaCraig wrote: ↑04 Apr 2022 19:51As the plugin is being used mainly for Sources it may be worth mentioning that in V7 you can select a Source in the Records window and then click the cog wheel icon in its Property Box toolbar and use the option to Show Source Record's Citations in Results Window.
