Automatic Source Citations
I have been trying everything possible to get my ASC working. I have followed the Help section, videos and forum in an attempt to use this feature. I'm testing it by doing the following:
1 Creating a source from template using the button on the upper bar
2 Selecting the appropriate source (an Essentials Source)
3 Creating a new person
4 Typing in his name
5 Enabling the ASC
5 Entering date of birth and place of residence (I also tried it by creating a birth fact)
6 Noting the appearance of a new citation in the sources box
7 Turning off the ASC
8 Checking the results by opening the citation and noting that there were no changes
What am I missing, or doing wrong?
I don't think this has anything to do with this problem, but when I imported my file from RM8 and also tried it with RM7, I am getting two thousand excluded items and 4000 info only line items (another ticket item).
Thank You!

Re: Automatic Source Citations
Are you sure you are enabling ASC?
Are you clicking the large Enable Automatic Source Citations button top left so it says Enabled?
Does the main FH window say Auto-citation Enabled in the lower right corner?
Please post problems with importing from RM in the Importing and Exporting forum.

Re: Automatic Source Citations
Does the ASC show your chosen Source?
A screenshot of your enabled ASC pane would be helpful.
See FHUG KB Forum Usage Tips under Attachments.
It should add a new Source Citation for each new data entry.
It does not alter any existing Source Citations.

Here is a screenshot while the Auto Source Citation was turned on and one of the opened citation afterward.

Re: Automatic Source Citations
That seems to have worked perfectly.
Presumably, the untitled source [221] citation was added when the Birth details were added.
Adding any further facts will add the same citation to each one.
What did you expect to happen?
It won't fill in any of the Source fields. You must do that as part of the preparation.
ASC just simplifies the repetitive process of adding the same citation to multiple new facts.
In this case, a Civil Registration Certificate for Birth, the facts would be the Birth Event, perhaps adding the parents' Names, and their Residence and Occupation facts.

Re: Automatic Source Citations
Ahhhh. Yes, I was expecting it to fill in the citation fields. So what it does is to link the citation to anyone tied to the event. In this case it would be the mother, father, occupations of both and possibly family witnesses - and if I brought in any media, then that media would also be linked to each of the above??
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Re: Automatic Source Citations
Yes, almost any item that gets added to the Project database while ASC is enabled will gain the same Citation.
I say 'almost' because a few items do not allow Citations:
e.g.
Source records and most fields;
Repository records and most fields;
Submitter records and most fields;
Place records and most fields;
Research Note records and most fields;
Source Templates and most fields;
The general exception is that Note fields can have Citations and Note fields can be added to most of the above.
Adding detail fields to any Fact I think adds a Citation to the Fact if it cannot be added to the field itself.
